  1. But our 2nd starter is ready to simulate going.
  2. Wow! Another Luis Gonzalez! Maybe it's not another one - that's how you get to a 9.72 ERA. [Never mind, Gonzalez's ERA is only 3.85]
  3. The check is in the mail. Did you miss this part:
  4. Thanks for the updates Fred. Just because we're quiet doesn't mean we aren't listening.
  5. On what criteria is Maddux a #5? Of 49 qualifying NL pitchers he ranks: ERA - 36 WHIP - 16 OBA - 19 OPSA - 29 QualityStarts - 25 IP - 7 Can you name 3 NL teams with 4 more productive starters?
  6. We have somewhat of a counter-example from last year, although your secondary stats pick up the distinction. Carlos Zambrano and Jeff Weaver rank 8 and 9 in the NL in WHIP for last year with 1.15 and 1.17, but their overall value differs greatly - on OPSA, Z is 632 while Weaver is 740. The difference is that Weaver gave up 35 HR while Z had 21 in virtually the same number of innings - 223.1 and 224. But this would be picked up from the differences in the secondary stats. On G/F, 1.62 for Z, 1.0 for Weaver. On K/9, 8.14 for Z, 6.31 for Weaver. Weaver keeps his WHIP down by not walking anybody - he had half as many walks as Z, 43 vs 86. But they both had 14 wins so I guess they're just the same.
  7. OK, I compared top 10, wins vs WHIP for NL only. There are 5 pitchers on both lists - Willis, Carpenter, Pettite, Beckett and Pedro. Which 5 would you rather have to round out your top 10? By Wins - Suppan, Mulder, Lieber, Capuano, Oswalt By WHIP - Clemens, Peavy, Smoltz, Zambrano, Weaver Edit - If you use opponent OPS instead of WHIP, nine of the top 10 stay the same - Weaver is replaced by AJ Burnett. Clemens opponent OPS was 544, 42 points better than 2nd place Pedro  , but he only had 13 wins.
  8. According to this morning's newspaper, my local ABC affiliate has it live on their digital subchannel which is also carried on local cable.
  9. Bruce, any updates will be appreciated.
  10. Some descriptive commentary for those of us pretending to work, please.
  11. No surprises - just the way we like it.
  12. Both - it's a ST audition. Does that mean the veteran just needs to look like he knows what he's doing?
  13. Sounds painful. My exact thoughts - at the least we're going to have fun with Jones's name.
  14. I think the Austin support would be primarily media-related. I think a team in SA would get a TV package in Austin.
  15. Hey, some of us are still pretending to work - let's hear some PBP please.
  16. And this is for JR, as a student of the industry. What in the heck was it about the original Dodge Omni/Plymouth Horizon that made them impossible to kill? You never see a Vega, Pinto or Chevette (and haven't for years), but I bet I see an Omni/Horizon at least once a week, driving on the freeway no less. That must have been the most over-engineered car ever built.
