  1. You think Michael Young might have changed some of that thinking?
  2. Through 12/7 for Jemel Spearman: 26/67 .388/.440/.522 2 HR, 1 3B, 1 2B, 7K, 7BB, 5SB Leaguewide he's tied for 1st in avg and runs, 2nd in hits and SB
  3. Through 12/3 for Jemel 22/58 .379/.422/.483 1 HR, 1 3B, 1 2B, 5BB, 6K, 3SB That ranks 3rd in avg, 2nd in hits for the league.
  4. I think there's a difference between saying (hinting, implying, whatever) that Jacque MUST go, and recognizing that some of his personnel transactions will involve trades, and that Jones is a good candidate to be included. People are always imploring Hendry to sell high, and trading Jones after a very good 2006 would seem to qualify. I don't see any problems here. I've seen nothing to indicate Hendry is willing to accept less than good value for Jones in a trade. We may not agree on Hendry's evaluation of potential trade targets, but I haven't heard of anyone that would be the equivalent of giving him away. Because of his no-trade clause, it probably makes sense to put the word out that Jones is open to being traded to stimulate the most interest.
  5. pretty good point, but on the other hand is the desperation factor. If you know a team is DETERMINED to get rid of a player, are you likely to offer a lot for him? not if they're desperate. . . in that case, you can wait them out, wait for the demands to drop . . . if it's announced that they intend to tradehim, eventually they will drop. If I know a team is DETERMINED to get rid of a player it still doesn't impact what I'm likely to offer for him if I think other teams might want him too. I want to offer as little as I can as long as it's more than the other teams are offering. Whether or not his current team wants him is not nearly as important as whether other teams want him.
  6. Expressing a willingness to accommodate a player's wish to be traded and down-playing a player's productivity are two completely different things. In the first case, as long as there are more than one or two teams interested in his services it doesn't matter if you want to trade him or not. A GM isn't going to let himself be outbid on a player he wants just because the player's current team wants to trade him. At the same time, even if you want to accommodate the player's wishes you should still refuse to trade him for less than he's worth to you. I don't see anything here that diminshes Jones's value. If anything, his willingness to be traded reduces his leverage to extort concessions to waive his no-trade.
  7. If the market for the services you're offering is as good this year as it is for MLB-proven talent, then yes, you're right :) It would also help if your boss thought he'd lose his job without you and that there were a dozen other employers more than happy to pay you what you're demanding.
  8. so that puts him at about 93? Well lets hope he's picked up a few conditioning tricks from Julio. Could come in handy in year 8.
  9. Through 11/30for Jemel Spearman - 17/48 .354/.392/.458 1 HR, 1 3B, 3BB, 6K Currently ranks 3rd in BA and Hits in the league.
  10. Well that didn't last long - Jemel's on a 1/14 streak - through 11/26: 13/40 .325/.372/.450 1 HR, 1 3B, 3BB, 5SO
  11. I don't know his PECOTA projection, but his ZIPS projection for 2006 was .248/.295/.439. I don't think ZIPS likes Soriano very much. ZIPS must not have taken into consideration the change in team chemistry between the Rangers and the Nats.
  12. Anybody know what Soriano and DeRosa's PECOTA and ZIPS were for 2006?
  13. Jemel now leads the Nicaragua league in avg - Link 12/26 .462/.500/.577 1HR, 3K, 2BB
  14. Jemel Spearman through 11/22: 10/22 .455/.500/.591/1.091 1HR, 2K, 2BB
  15. I can agree on Pierre, but all Matthews has to do is repeat or come close to the performance he had last year to be worth his contract. Is it a slam dunk? Heck no, but is it impossible? Certainly not. Put it another way. Based on his performance prior to last year would you have said there is any way he would have put up the numbers he did last year? I would have said probably not, but he did. Having done it once makes it possible (even if not likely) that he will do it again.
  16. The problem is you are talking about one year. I know I'm only talking about one year, that's why I looked for consistency within the year. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect future performance at least as good as his worst month in that one year.
  17. Dumbest. Contract. Ever. Not. Even. Close. Are you talking dumbest in hindsight, or dumbest at the time the decision was made? To me this is plainly a terrible deal, no hindsight necessary. Living in Ranger country I had the opportunity to watch him all last year and he was amazingly consistent. Even if you take the OPS of his worst month (.792), for a top tier defensive CF the contract might be 1 or 2M over market. With his athleticism he should make it through the 5 years without losing too much. Can you say Chan Ho Park?
  18. I don't know if anyone else is in Nicaragua, but so far Jemel Spearman is looking pretty good for the Tigres del Chinandega 5/13 .385/.429/.385/.814 1BB 1K
  19. I know that defense isn't the most important thing, but for old times sake I just went to MLB.com and reviewed some of GMJ's defensive highlights from 2006. As far as highlights go I'd rather watch defense than offense anytime, and his highlights are spectacular. Not saying I want him on the Cubs, but man he's awesome to watch.
  20. Everyone's putting DeRosa in the 8 spot for next year. What do they know that the Rangers didn't? Last year the Rangers had the number 4 offense (by total runs) in the AL, and they hit DeRosa 5th and 6th much more than any other spot.
  21. Haha whatta douchebag. Maybe she thinks now that he's in Chicago he'll only have 160 K's over the next 8 years.
  22. Are you a hard worker too with a positive make-up that will be an inspiration to this team? Just say yes and we'll sign you to 6/$40M Sorry, not sure which team you are affiliated from, but since I posted this I've gotten offers for 7/$96 from the Angels and 13/$224 from the Yankees. (and and I'm definitely from more of the 'clubhouse cancer' mold) But how many positions can you allegedly play?
  23. Sponsorship with a plug for NSBB beats BandWGN's. Nice work, Vance.
