i don't understand why the cubs would be interested in trading soriano to the mets for floyd, but not trading him to the red sox for manny. boston needs a second baseman. texas needs pitching. cubs need a LF. this makes too much sense.

this trade would never, ever happen, and the cubs wouldn't even consider doing it. by losing aramis, the cubs' offense wouldn't be upgraded at all.

i've come to the conclusion that i don't want soriano.

i think acquiring soriano is much riskier than getting ramirez. soriano is terrible at 2B, which is where he wants to play, and supposedly isn't interested in playing OF. his road splits are all over the place, his steals are down, and his OBP is around .315. i'll take manny over soriano any day of the week.

as soon as i heard this soriano rumor, i immediately thought of a three-way trade with boston. boston needs a second baseman, the cubs need a LF, texas needs pitching. everyone keeps saying that one of the most difficult things about trading ramirez is getting equal value for him. isn't soriano a start? he'd fit well in the boston lineup, which already has a ton of OBP. texas needs pitching, the cubs need a big bat in LF... make it happen, jim

I agree. However, my opinion is likely invalid because I'm a victim of groupthink. Well, if you feel that way, maybe ignoring it would be a good idea. i do too. i've been following his performance with AA all year, and everything i read about this kid sounds great. he's got a great concept of the strike zone, he hustles, and he can flat out hit. i think his power will come. i'm much more comfortable with murton in the big leagues, simply because he does have patience and an understanding of what's a ball and what's a strike. i don't think pie has that yet. maybe he has the power in him, maybe he doesn't. right now, i don't think there's one good reason to play todd hollandsworth over matt murton. also, in all honesty, i'd be more distraught about losing murton in a trade than pie. but i guess we'll see what happens.

NO Really? That's not that horrible a deal now that I think about it. I didn't think so, either, but after a moment of consideration... If you, as I do, think that our Ramirez is at or nearing the caliber of hitter that their Ramirez is, then essentially you end up trading about 10 million a year for Kevin Youkilis in that deal. That's...not so appealing. exactly. also, aramis is several years younger than manny, and is outproducing manny this year as well. i think the marginal difference between the two is not worth the extra 10 million in salary.
