  1. Heh. I think the rain will stop completely in a few minutes. Looking at the radar, the back end of the storm (front) is just about to pass Chicago. oh happy days. I hate the Houston Astros with a fiery passion that burns me more than the hatred I have for the Cardinals. Houston hatred>Iowa Hatred Wow. That is some serious hatred for a someone named illiniguy. Think about what they gave away this offseason Beltran and Kent. Add to that Bagwell is done and they have lost about what 90 homers 300 rbis yet they are still playing this well. It is flat out ridiculous. I GET THE FEELING THAT THIS SURGE OF THEIRS WONT BE AS SUSTAINED AS LAST YEARS, IT TOOK BELTRAN AND HIS REALLY GOOD 2ND HALF LAST YEAR TO GET THEM INTO THE PLAYOFFS, THEY DONT HAVE THAT THIS YEAR they do have the best 1-3 starters in the national league, however
  2. mark your calendar for october 1st I doubt too many Illini fans want to see what happens in Kinnick that day.. A DAY THAT WILL LIVE ON IN INFAMY
  3. neifi perez has 391 ABs and he's hitting .261. what
  4. neifi perez couldn't hit .370 in AAA i've watched almost every game, and neifi has been average. not terrible. not good. simply average. sorry. it's funny that people keep bringing up defense too, because that also happens to be one of cedeno's biggest strengths. also, no one on this board said that dubois was as good as holla in the field. lots of people said that hollandsworth isn't a huge upgrade over dubois defensively, but no one ever said that dubois was just as good as hollandsworth. for the record, todd is another player that shouldn't be playing everyday either. i watch every game objectively. neifi's grand slam was nice, his hit last night was nice, but there's about 200 ABs or so that have been appalling. my exact quote when neifi hit that home run was, "YESSS! NO WAY!! NEIFI! YOU STILL ARE A HORRIBLE BASEBALL PLAYER BUT YESSS!" you make it sound like we root for him to fail. i think you need to look at him objectively. it's not like people are throwing out crazy baseball prospectus stats around to prove his worthlessness. his obp is .280 for chrissakes. TWO EIGHT ZERO
  5. neifi perez has been nothing special on defense this year at all
  6. neifi perez isn't even the best backup infielder on the cubs and yes, i do know better, and do hate him!
  7. oh wow my good friend is in boston this week, and he's at the game tonight. a couple minutes ago he sent me a text message that said 'welp i think matt clement just died'... i'm like 'uh ok', and i figured he got injured or something... this sucks. hope he's ok. EDIT: oh wait they're playing in tampa bay, he must be in his hotel room watching. what a loser
  8. tom skilling is almost too thorough, also i think he's gay (literally) just wanted to add that phil rogers = lol also he's a huge idiot for wanting pujols over lee... kasper is dropping some science, god he's amazing
  9. although i don't really care that manny sucks on defense, i would argue that one of the reasons that manny has so many outfield assists is that he's playing in front of the green monster. i can see a lot of players hitting ropes off the wall that manny can play off a hop and gun someone trying to stretch a single into a double. if boston would eat a significant portion of manny's contract, i'd be for manny big-time. it's pretty unlikely, however.
  10. i for one am glad people are not overreacting
  11. Do you like Van Halen? aerosmith Pie or cake? http://www.hpbrennans.com/images/Pictures/GreenlfPics/Pumpkin%20Pie.jpg PUMPKIN PIE IS AWESOME credibility +10
  12. it'll all be forgotten when this thread is added to the "Greatest threads ever at NSBB" when the cubs get dunn, or the "Most sadistic thread ever at NSBB" if it's a big load of hooey either way you are all posting in a legendary thread, and we can't find out for sure until 48 hours (or whatever). we have to kill the time somehow, so.... anybody here have any pets?
  13. Do you like Van Halen? aerosmith hahaha CPatterson were you being sarcastic, or did you forget that aerosmith sings sweet emotion
  14. good god sweetemotion, is your friend controlling the weather also: adam dunn rox
  15. i only vote yes if badger is a girl or adam dunn
  16. They didn't really love him. They ragged about his defense and he had one of his poorest seasons playing for them (his OBA was a full-season career low of .333). He was, of course, phenomenal in the postseason, but they didn't even try to re-sign him. I'm glad they didn't. I'd like to see Hendry lock Todd up for a couple more years past this one. What is an OBA? on base average, same thing as OBP
  17. the more i think about this trade, the more i get the feeling we just traded for a lefty version of jerry hairston ONE JERRY IS ENOUGH hmm. i wonder what mediocre player we will trade ronny cedeno for?
  18. opposite day would have also worked nicely, mr. sauce
  19. you can't be serious. first of all, i cannot begin to tell you how asinine it is to bring up a player's performance in one game. if he hits 3-3 with 2 HRs and a BB tomorrow, will that change your opinion of him? i doubt it. so it's silly to even bring up what he did tonight. secondly, i hate to be a jerk, but have you read any of the 10 or so threads dedicated to adam dunn? there's probably been one in every forum, and in every one, about a dozen people bring up the whole strikeout issue. i'm so tired of arguing about it, i'm not going to even bother doing it again. but to answer your question, i still want him. bad. and you should too. EDIT: fun fact - dunn's OPS is higher than aramis ramirez's, abreu's, andruw jones, and jim edmonds
  20. honestly, i'm not sure the cubs will make a big move at all. i wouldn't be surprised if the cubs pick up a couple of players through the waiver wire or trade for some bullpen help. there's a couple reasons for this. first of all, there are too many teams hanging on in the NL. maybe it will be clearer as august draws closer, but i think there's too many teams that won't be willing to sell. secondly, if it's true that hendry doesn't want a rental (which is fine by me), i don't think there's many long-term solutions to the cubs' needs. adam dunn is really the only player that has been discussed that would be here for a long time. also, i think that when nomar comes back, it will be the first time the team is together as intended. the cubs are playing great right now, and if they can stay healthy and pitch the way they have been, i'm pretty happy with our chances. if they weren't so inconsistent, i'd be much more confident, but if the cubs play this way up until the trade deadline, i'm not sure they have to make a big move. i still want dunn though.
