  1. average enough to lead the minor leagues in strikeouts Hill is not a strikeout pitcher in Major league Baseball. Except that Hill's 9.72 K/9 (albeit small sample size) says your wrong! Seriously, go to http://www.espn.com. They have all kinds of great stats there. Look at his starts. 5 k's in each of them. Like I conceded he'll be a decent strikeout pitcher. But it is WRONG to think that he's going to strike out nearly as many guys in the majors as he did in the minors at AA. And frankly, I think your tone is condescending and rude. I'm getting tired of some posters here acting like know-it-alls and acting like posters with only 300 or less posts couldn't possibly know anything regarding baseball. ha, he just came up. of course he's not going to strike out 14 guys a game. give him some time in the big leagues before you declare that he's not a strikeout pitcher.
  2. average enough to lead the minor leagues in strikeouts Hill is not a strikeout pitcher in Major league Baseball. why? small sample size, but he's striking out 10 people per 9 innings so far. why wouldn't he be a strikeout pitcher in the major leagues? also, the fact that you want dunn so much, seems strange based on your arguments on why we should have soriano.

  4. I guess that would be true if...um, it werent wrong. The Rangers offense is SIGNIFICANTLY better than ours. They are #3 in MLB in runs, only 9 out of first and we are #16 only 1 out of 18th. They are scoring nearly a run more a game than us. So if you are using runs and rbis to evaluate a ranger player, take it within the context of their lineup. The Rangers have better offensive players in all likelihood(I haven't taken a detailed look at it), but their overall numbers like Runs are skewed in their favor because 1) They play with the DH and 2) They play in a much more hitter friendly park than we do. all these arguments about texas being a better offensive team than the cubs are silly when referenced to soriano's production, because soriano is performing under his career numbers in most offensive categories this year. it's not like soriano is having some monster year because he's on texas. it doesn't matter what lineup he's in, he's still overrated.
  5. yes, opportunities to not get on base and play bad defense and make lots of money
  6. why would the twins, who desperately need a second baseman, trade for soriano and then ship him to the cubs? makes no sense.
  7. RBI's and runs don't dictate production
  8. soriano is an improvement over walker, but not a big one. it's not big enough to justify trading good prospects for him, and paying him 3 times more. also, soriano is a butcher in the field, which brings down his value further. the cubs' number one weakness offensively is OBP, getting soriano doesn't address that at all. Not a big improvement? 20-30 more runs and 20-30 more rbi's??? Do you think his extra 12-15 errors make up for, say, 25 extra runs every year? i don't care about his rbi's, soriano's always been in the middle of the order with a great lineup in both texas and new york. also, he's made 19-23 errors every year since 2001, and he's already got 15 this year. he's making $7.5 million, walker is making $2.5 million. soriano will cost top prospects, keeping walker will cost nothing. the cubs shouldn't be focusing on soriano, i'm sorry. you have to address what your team needs, and the cubs do not need soriano. i would rather have matt lawton than soriano.

  10. "I want to stay here, I want to win a World Series," --Manny Ramirez, not in the lineup again today
  11. we should trade for marquis and start him in left
  12. frankly, i highly doubt it. only the red sox know how dire this situation is. from a bargaining perspective, they're not going to come out and say "WE WANT THIS GUY OUT AT ALL COUNTS". if he's not traded, then i think they can live with him. if he's traded for sergio mitre, then i guess they wanted him out.
  13. My guess is that Hendry values Manny over Dunn. Perhaps by quite a bit, especially if Boston is willing to send $10-15 million Chicago's way. Maybe I'm misreading your reply, CubfaninCA, but I think sonic was saying if he Hendry wouldn't give the Reds Hill for Dunn straight up then, why would they give Cincinnati Pie + others for Dunn now? Not why give more for Manny instead of the other deal to try for Dunn. yeah, i was a little ambigious i suppose. but i guess you could make the same point about manny as well. does hendry really regard manny that highly? does anyone really know how hard hendry is pursuing manny? i know hendry does a great job of working under the radar, but it seemed like the major sports outlets had speculated much further in-depth on the cubs getting aramis and nomar then they have this deal. i wouldn't be surprised if the cubs were able to pull it off, but it just seems like it's not that likely to happen. all i hear is mets and devil rays from everywhere, except of course NSBB. i don't think anyone has a real clue what's going on with hendry this year. there's just too many possibilities, and too many intangibles to figure out what's going to happen next. 16 more hours to go, damn it. buster olney: "this saga is 99.9% dead for everybody" I'LL BELIEVE IT WHEN I SEE IT YOU LIARS
  14. if hendry wouldn't trade rich hill straight up for dunn (which is whack, dude), then why would he trade pie + other stuff for him?
  15. i would imagine this would be the case. if giles is available, why wouldn't the cubs be going after him? he's been one of the top 5 or 6 most productive outfielders in the NL this year, and he's always posted ridiculous numbers at wrigley field. i wouldn't mind even signing him to an extension after the season is over. if the cardinals get him, i think it puts them over the top.
  16. no thanks. he's going to command far more than he's worth.
  17. my friend in boston says manny isn't in the lineup tonight EDIT: CURSE YOU WINDYCITY
  18. Since I'm incredibly naive and hopelessly optimistic, I'll get pretty excited for the Cubs if the Manny/Mets deal breaks down. But only because I'm incredibly naive and hopelessly optimistic :) . Yeah, I'd say that's about right. Seriously, while I'd love to have his bat, we just spent a whole offseason purging this team of guys with attitude problems far less than what Manny has. none of them had a career OPS of 1.000+, though
  19. Yeah, those guys are scrubs. oswalt and clemens have not been pitching over their heads at all, they're capable of being the best pitchers in the NL. pettitte however, i have my doubts about.
