  1. fair enough. still doesn't change my point though.
  2. ahahahahahaha... um, yes? what if a team were the blacks or the jews or the spainards or the dusty busters, then what? it's ok because they're indians? i don't get it. answer me why it's ok for us to name our teams and schools after races of indians, but if i wanted to make my school the University of Illinois-Shorewood Jews, i'd be run out of town.
  3. hey guy, i'm not an indian, i'm like a quarter swede, so i'm not offended at all. if real authentic genuine indians don't like it and are offended by it, then i say it's offensive. it's still a race of people, regardless of how the logo or name or whatever is portrayed
  4. i don't understand how it's ok for a college to do it, but it's not ok for a team like cleveland. if your university is actually praised by the indians for which it's named, then fine. i think it's stupid, but if the people themselves don't care, then whatever. it's just such a silly thing to name a sports team after a race of people. indians are PEOPLE. i don't think it's a matter of political correctness, it's a matter of progression and good taste. if the new york mets became the new york jews, people would go nuts. you can't have a double standard. i went to minooka high school, clearly an indian name, and our nickname was the indians. our school newspaper was the peace pipe chatter, and you could go buy minooka t-shirts and stuff during football games at this place called the trading post. that's just so... lame. i'm not offended by it per se, but it's just stupid. it's the year 2005 for jiminy cricket's sake, can't we come up with something besides a RACE of HUMANS to be a school's name? the vast majority of native american's don't approve of this, and they're the ones being defamed, so i'm with them. and notre dame... i hate notre dame, and i'm not gonna touch them with 10 foot jesus pole

  6. they should give murton a chance, they just don't need to re-sign burnitz
  7. i really don't understand why i everyone is hesitant to sign this guy. because he's old? because he's declining? uh, check again. brian giles is having a fantastic year this year, and he's playing in a horrible hitters' park. his numbers this year look like this: .285/.421/.482 this is a guy that is a major threat in the lineup, and no matter what, he gets on base. his career OBP is .412, and his career OPS is .956. plus, he'll be 35 at the start of next season. it's not like we're signing a 40 year old, injury plagued grump who pisses on himself. giles can still play at a level that makes him one of the most productive outfielders in the national league. he's has been twice as productive as burnitz has been, and is worth the extra couple million. if you want to pass on him, fine, but just think what the cardinals' line-up would be with him in it.
  8. the a's are everything i wish the cubs were. they play smart baseball, they let their kids play (and they produce), they have a great starting rotation and a great bullpen. also they have barry zito and that crazy one crazy guy with red hair WE HAVE A GUY WITH CRAZY RED HAIR AND WE NEVER PLAY HIM argh
  9. cedeno is widely regarded to have excellent to gold glove caliber defense at shorstop. it is, after all, the first time he's ever played in the big leagues. i would cut him some slack.
  10. i really wouldn't be against patterson being called up, now that we have lawton leading off. if he's not ready, i could live with lawton in right and murton in left until he is. either way, i don't think losing hairson will be that big of a loss, unless dusty plays the insanity card and starts macias.
  11. oakland has really had a remarkable run. i love the way that team is run, and i love young teams that have success. it's so much more fun rooting for the kids, it seems also, i would just like to say that i think this thread is really awesome, in more than one way
  12. why don't we all just take a deep breath, and look back and read the multiple other neifi perez threads on this board. it's been discussed at great length MANY times before, and i don't think we need to start this argument again.
  13. well, i guess i forgot about pie and patterson. i honestly think patterson will be traded in the offseason (the yankees?), and i doubt pie would get any playing time whatsoever over burnitz. we'll have to see what happens, but i really want giles. sign him to a two year contract or something, and give murton a shot somewhere.
  14. we'd have to throw in lee and ramirez for that trade to go through
  15. the cubs should sign giles next year, re-sign burnitz and play him in center, and let murton be the starting LF.
  16. hahaha what? we clearly upgraded in left, and gave up virtually nothing at all. how can you say you are happier staying put? I wouldnt say that we gave up nothing for Lawton. i would. where was jody supposed to play? he wasn't going to start over hollandsworth, and murton has been playing more and more. he's ben grieve with better defense. matt lawton can legitimately help this team.
  17. hahaha what? we clearly upgraded in left, and gave up virtually nothing at all. how can you say you are happier staying put?
  18. hahahahahaha i was waiting for this post as soon as i heard the deal went down i don't know what you expect the cubs to do. if no one was willing to trade a guy like dunn or manny or kearns, then this is a great deal.
  19. this is an excellent trade for the cubs. lawton is a very good addition to this team, great OBP, good speed, and a perfect fit at the top of the order. nice job, jim.
  20. no, brian roberts is, and chase utley and jeff kent are NL 2Bs who are far better than soriano anyways. there's a whole other thread on why we shouldn't get soriano, by the way.
  21. I think Hendry will get Kearns sooner or later. He may not do it today, but Kearns would probably get through waivers anyway and it may even be an offseason move. When Hendry likes a guy (e.g. - Barrett, Burnitz) he usually eventually finds a way to get him. i don't think there's any way kearns makes it through waivers to the cubs
