  1. what happened to da flash? wow... truffle, you are technically correct.
  2. had no idea it was this bad. originally sounded like they just pushed him aside because they need the arm in the bullpen desperately enough, and jones wasn't able to be moved. hopefully he gets well soon, because, while i have a lot of trust in marmol and some in howry, demp has done a fair job this year.
  3. i want starting pitching and tend to believe that pie is the type of player once can pick up cheaply through free agency.
  4. please be: soriano fontenot lee ramirez floyd derosa pie hill lilly though its certainly going to end with: jones hill izturis lilly after which happens i will vomit on my sister's laptop.
  5. yesterday didn't feel good. it was so distant from what i had grown to enjoy. WIN!
  6. the stuff you come up with sometimes, fred... you should really be getting paid for this.

  8. i just honestly don't care about this. if he can throw heat with that breaking pitch, he'd be a good addition, but as it is - minus eyre - i like the bullpen a lot right now.
  9. haha. the white sox suck.
  10. had no idea pittsburgh moved chacon to the bullpen.
  11. If this little breather lasts through the break, then definitely. Lou seems to think the bench time helped Riot - said his bat looked slow so he gave him a few days off. He is probably thinking the same thing will work with Pie. The difference of course is Theriot doesn't really have much of a future, he's either going to stick as a utility guy or not. There's no need to try and get him over slumps by playing. Plus, he never sat 4 days in a row. He had a week where played every other day. Pie is pretty much the 25th man. jones is closer to 25th man status than pie right now. guarantee pie comes in to pinch hit/run before jones. That said, he needs to be starting again. oh i don't disagree with that.

  13. voted for raisin. marco is still awesome, though. plus, this should be everyones reminder to click on the link in his sig and join the nsbb last.fm group.
  14. i know, or at least i think, you guys can do better than fat jokes.
  15. i liked chip when he was in chicago. not so much joe carter, but chip was good. and now he does an excellent call for atlanta, and i often watch their games on tbs to hear him announce. however, len >>>>>>>> chip. and bob is a good color man, too. it's just that len, imo, has the chance to become one of the better baseball announcers ever if he stays with the cubs for a long time. also, he is becoming a cubs fan quickly. and seems to 'get it,' as far as understanding us.
  16. very clever wording there, len.
  17. youtube of the walk off, anyone? can't believe i missed the end, though i felt like they would somehow pull it off. amazing the turnaround of late.
  18. people really like steve phillips here? wow. Yeah, I was just kidding when I put down his name. i figured you were being sarcastic, so i didn't quote you, however...
  19. Not really. You might want to give Carlos the chance to throw more than 20 innings before you make a statement like that. i understand it's a small sample size, but he is keeping up, and i think he has the ability to keep it up. iirc, marmol has 22 innings and k-rod has 30-something. not that big of a difference (though you will say k-rod has done it for a while and marmol has not, to which i have no rebuttal).
  20. before he takes it to you? one mo fo uk
  21. people really like steve phillips here? wow.
  22. Carlos Marmol? of course he won't make it, but let's do a quick comparison, shall we? Marmol = ERA:1.29, WHIP:1.05, K/9:10.38, K/BB:3.625/1 Frans. Rodriguez= ERA:2.43, WHIP:1.17, K/9:13.36, K/BB:3.5/1 Papelbon = ERA:1.55, WHIP:0.86, K/9:12.41, K/BB:4/1 F. Cordero = ERA:2.16, WHIP:0.99, K/9:12.81, K/BB:3.92/1 ... i could go on forever here, and he's only going to get better as i pair him up against the non-elite closers of baseball like al reyes or kevin gregg. however, this probably shows that marmol is nearly as good as any other reliever (save k per 9, perhaps) in baseball.
  23. iirc, the pitches per at bat is up a decent amount from recent years as well. certainly some degree of offensive success has to rest in a hitting coach/managers lap. at least the same amount that would be attributed to the horrible approach by hitters during the baker era.
