  1. This is a great trade for the Rangers. They are going for it. What more can you ask of a management team that has done a phenomenal job of acquiring prospects? They spent some of their many chips to get a legit ace. They kept Scheppers and Perez. Smoak projects better than Davis, but neither were going to be relied upon with the sick lineup that they have this season. As a Gamecock, I'll miss Smoak, but as a Rangers fan, this trade was a no-brainer.
  2. It was the middle of last season. Wasn't Hamilton busted in the middle of last year? Hamilton's relapse was revealed mid-season last year, however, the actual relapse took place prior to the 2009 season.
  3. Not true. I can't find the DMN blog article, but Rudy made 425k or so and was only offered a 3% cost of living increase on a one year deal. The Rangers felt the message had gotten stale and wanted a new voice. It was the Seinfeld "nonvitation" as the DMN described it. Well the Bruce Levine article on ESPNChicago had him making $650,000 last year, which is about what I had heard he made somewhere else. Turns out we're both wrong. Evan Grant of the DMN has written now multiple times that the offer was $545,000 for one year. That offer represents only a 3% cost of living increase from his 2009 salary. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/baseball/rangers/stories/101509dnspogrant.3ac80b5.html

  5. I have some info on this situation... The Rangers felt that the message was getting stale and that Rudy's influence was was waning. Furthermore, with the team for sale, they weren't willing to continue to break the bank for a hitting coach they felt was not as effective as he once had been. However, they didn't want to outright fire him, so they basically offered to add a year to his current deal at the same price, only a COL adjustment added. He's a guy that had a tremendous amount of respect and backing in the clubhouse. The players love him. When the offense went south on the Rangers this summer, no one worked harder than Rudy. He lived in the cage with the guys. Mechanics are definitely his strong suit. His focus is getting and recognizing the right pitch to drive. He has a great eye and he'll give the Cubs everything he has.
  6. This is an embarrassment of riches for any sports fan. It is because of the Steelers, and now the Pens, that I am able to be a Cubs fan and Gamecock fan. What a game. What a series.
  7. I swear I checked this morning and AZ was still on the clock. It doesn't appear that Alex Mack was picked, so I'd rather have him. Can you make the switch, dew?
  8. The Steelers could use a return man/receiver to help. Thus, they select Mike Wallace, WR, Ole Miss.
  9. While DeJuan Blair has not signed with an agent, he has signed a marketing deal with a local attorney, so his eligibility is lost.
  10. Given what the rest of my day looks like, if the other AZ guy doesn't show, it could be tomorrow before I pick. I think Shady McCoy probably should be the AZ pick, so I'll make my pick and include a backup just in case I get snaked. The champs, if they are to climb the stairway to seven, need help in a few areas, OL, DB, and WR. The Steelers undoubtedly won the Super Bowl with the worst offensive line of any champ in history. Max Starks and Willie Colon each resigned, but Colon sucks and Starks is only adequate. Kemouatu resigned, which is good, but they cut Simmons loose and Stapleton was only passable. Basically what I'm saying is that any of the three OL positions could be improved by taking Beattie, Robinson, or Mack. There isn't really a corner or a safety out there that I like in this spot, nor a 3-4 DE. Thus... The Steelers select Duke Robinson, OG, Oklahoma. Robinson is a mauler at G that will go well with the Steelers running attack and should replace Stapleton from day one. He is also versatile enough to play RT, if necessary. If the Cardinals get cute and take Robinson, I'll take William Beatty, OT, Connecticut. I'll check in tomorrow.
  11. How much longer are we going to wait?
  12. The Steelers are not getting a lot of love in this thread. The Cards are a great story and I am a big Fitz fan, but I think the story book doesn't get its happy ending. LeBeau will figure out a way to contain their offense enough to win, as long as our O doesn't turn it over. If you play this game ten times, I think Pittsburgh wins seven of them. As for Ryan Clark, he plays extremely aggressively but within the rules. If McGahee doesn't duck down, their helmets never touch. I also take issue that the Steelers are a dirty team. Football is a violent game and the Steelers play violently between the whistles.
  13. For the third straight year, I will pick for the soon-to-be six time Super Bowl Champs.
  14. Dear god we got destroyed. Florida is unreal. That is all.
  15. Somewhere Johnny Majors is smiling. Nothing like having Stephen Orr Spurrier be the one to drive the last nail into the coffin. That's gotta sting a little. Also, I can't ever remember hearing Rocky Top less than I did at the game on Saturday night. What a pleasant evening without the mind numbing, ear bleed inducing horror that is Rocky Top being played 2000 times in 3 hours.

    NFL Week 3

I am pumped for the battle of PA. Going to Philadelphia is going to be rough, although playing in Cleveland will be good practice for playing in front of mouth-breathing, unwashed miscreants. (Yes, I get the irony there)
  17. By 4! That's crazy! He's right. The final was 4-0. That had to be a kick in the nuts. edit: Here's the wikipedia entry on the no-hitter... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Hawkins He's still proud of the accomplishment even though it didn't go his way. Incidentally, he's the pitching coach for the Texas Rangers now.
  18. If only they played one this week. it should still give us a better idea of where this team is. Maine and Florida International have provided a lot of the same competition we could have gotten from some of the D3 schools around here, and Iowa State is probably looking at another long season. by the way, I wasn't implying Pitt was good. it was subtle bitching about the lack of quality opponents early in the season. I'm expecting this team to host Wisconsin with a 6-1 or 7-0 record I got what you were saying, I just never miss a chance to take a shot at Pitt. Or maybe it was a shot at myself since I actually thought that Wanny was a good hire.
  19. If only they played one this week.
  20. HAHAHA I get it. People in the South are rednecks, amirite?
  21. I just don't care....I freakin' love that song.
