And with Reed Johnson on deck, chances aren't great that he'll get a hit either. THEN MAYBE WE SHOULD HAVE PINCH HIT THE [expletive] GUY STILL SITTING ON THE BENCH WHO COULD HIT. THE GUY WHO WAS COMING INTO THE GAME ON DEFENSE ANYWAY. (Not aimed at you) Any stat on the success of squeezes is likely only going to take into squeezes in which the ball was bunted in fair territory. (Ignoring all attempts like Fontenot's last night or when the ball is bunted foul) Similar to when people cite stats on runs on sac bunts. Nobody ever counts those bunts where a guy is forced out, or when the guy whiffs on it/puts it foul Also probably wouldnt take into account suicide squeezes vs safety squeezes

Squeezes make less sense in lower leverage situations, because the risk being taken won't pay off with as great of a reward. However, like other people have said in the thread, I'd like to see info on the success rate of suicide squeezes. I found someone who randomly said it was 86 percent, but that had no source and it seems far too high. Well thats why Fox should have been the guy pinch hitting

    Where on earth would we play that disaster? That disaster has put up a .959OPS and would lead the Cubs in every offensive category outside of batting average. I wish we could find somewhere to play that disaster....

    Cabrera .679 OPS this season Cabrera makes 4,000,000 Cabrera is 34 years old Fontenot .671 OPS this season Fontenot makes 430,000 Fontenot is 29 years old Cabrera will cost us something from out minor league systen, while Fontenot is already here. I fail to see why we would want Cabrera, yes hes had a good July, but other than that hes been horrible.

    i hate this argument. you know, the one that assumes getting down a squeeze bunt is just as easy as putting the bat out there and viola the run scores. Yup people defending the move are ignoring all the mitigating factors that go along with a squeeze play in that situation.

    Let's rip em off again. Sorry Jake. Dave Littlefield works for you guys now. If anyone is gonna rip off anyone, well, that fact alone puts us in a better position. Except Dave Littlefield is just a person in the organization, not someone who makes any decisions.

    Id still like to see what the success rate of a squeeze play with the bases loaded and 1 out it, compared to a guy hitting a sac fly, or just about anything else. I have a hard time believing a squeeze play was the best chance to score a run.

    Actually, it was really smart... just badly executed. The sqeeze wasnt smart. Sending Fontenot to bat instead of Fox, who was already coming in the game, wasnt smart. There is a lot better chance at getting a hit, a sac fly, an error, wild pitch or passed ball, then relying A) on the pitcher to throw a strike B) the batter to bunt the ball fair C) the runner on 3rd making it home before the fielders get him out at home. There were just way to many invariables involved with a squeeze at that time that it makes it a completely horrific decision.

    Yea Im more pissed at the piss poor roster management of this team than I am that Lou wont start Fox at catcher. Early on in the year we were always playing a man down, because they wouldnt DL someone, and now because they wont call up or get another catcher, we arent allowed(because our manager is to scared) to use Fox as a PH in a close game. Its asinine.

    Absolutely stupid on the Astros' part. Streaky as he is and as bad as his night was the guy's numbers over the last 2+ weeks are scalding hot. I dont think it was a terrible decision. Load the base for the forse out at home. Sori had already struck out 3 times, and the other time hit a weak grounder to 3rd. Also, no matter how hot Sori is, hes a huge strikeout candidate.
