  1. Yeah, it's wonderful. I took some on an international flight and was out before they were serving dinner. Worked like a charm. Just so you guys know its the same active ingredient as Benadryl, just marketed as a sleep aid and priced 10x higher. I'm well aware. Walgreens sells something called "Sleep 2" which is the same thing in pill form. but benadryl doesn't have the alcohol.
  2. totally only in America Only da cobs
  3. I don't think that's true at all. Major changes off the top of my head Out or significantly lost talent: Soto, Castro, Garza, Dempster, Marshall In or significantly gained talent: Jackson, Rizzo, Schierholtz, Castillo, Samardzija Pretty close to a wash, imo. Could make a case either way. Ramirez? Soriano? Wells? This is the roster that finished 2011. You can't tell me in any universe that this current team is better than that one. Cheaper? Yes. Younger? Yes. Better? Hell no. . It's been a long 2 years.
  4. Haha, that's awesome for some reason. Player-coach, plz.
  5. 23000+ posts and you don't know Vitters can't play Third Base? more reading; less writing.
  6. Bingo. Some of these players will be traded for missing pieces. Some, if they fail, can still be useful in trading to teams making salary dumps. A couple will succeed. Then there's also an Eric Hinske in there somewhere. I'm as excited about these guys as I was about the early 2000's bunch. That's including Prior. A lot of that has to do with depth. More of it has to do with my faith in the front office team which is superior in quality and quantity than in those days.
  7. Sisco references make me cry.
  8. I guess there's enough of a mix of smart over there along with the stupid that I had forgotten about/overlooked the stupid. NSBB has left me sheltered. Why is it wrong to place some value on a speed tool?
  9. According to gameday, there wasn't one ball in that walk issued to Lowrie.
  10. He signs for under slot and we throw that money at Bryant, right?
  11. I'm not going to sweat it. This is what he does. He goes lights out and then he goes 4IP with 6 walks and 6 ER his next couple times out. If I remember correctly, he and Feldman were offered identical deals and Liriano passed on it while Feldman jumped on it. Thus far I'm pretty happy with how it's all worked out. Yup. I prefer Feldman, and the fact that both are doing well reinforces the idea that our guys know what they are doing.
  12. I blame all the day games.
  13. Gameday showed shark getting squeezed like crazy in that at-bat resulting in a walk. True?

he seems to be doing ok.

I think I acknowledged that things will change in time. I'm talking philosophically. Which do you prefer, higher average, high OBP, or lower average, higher SLG and higher OPS? I think even if this was permanent, I'm liking it. I like the more power less AVG Rizzo. That we might be able to have both is not germane to my question.

Its a given that there will be more ups and downs this season, but for the sake of discussion, which Rizzo do you prefer? (last year vs. this year) .285 .342 .463 .805 .224 .315 .531 .846

.114 BABIP against righties and a .313 BABIP against lefties probably has something to do with it. I think a 25% LD% vs lefties over against 12% vs righties explains that BABIP variance. PackLandVa may have identified a cause for that low BABIP. His BB% is lower against RHP too (12.1 to 7.7). He's swinging often and swinging hard vs RHP. He's hitting a lot of HRs and a lot of popups.

I'm a little behind in my NSBB reading (lots going on at work, buying a house, etc) so I read this whole thread in one sitting. I laughed harder at this thread than any single thread in a long time. Thank you NSBB for being awesome.
  19. With this depth, it makes all kinds of sense to start Garza on the DL. No reason to rush one of your most valuable pieces.
  20. Your tone sounds like you're trying to be hyperbolic (maybe I'm wrong), but I'm not sure its out of the realm of possibility. through age 27 Tulo is about a 27 war player in 5+ full seasons averaging around 500PA through age 27 CalJr was about 43 in 7 full season of over 700PA . That's a significant difference, but most of it can be attributed to playing time. In fact, in his age 28 season Ripken put up a 6.3 WAR. Tulo has already done that 3 times in less playing time. I would say that suggesting he could jump to Cal Ripken levels isn't hyperbolic. He's just not made of Iron -- and maybe that's what you were suggesting.
  21. This time of year you almost never see a team overpay for a guy like Soriano. The Yankees - or any team, really-would have to overpay to make it worth it for the Cubs. Sounds like that's basically what went down.
