  1. we can always call hin A-Sor Please don't. I'm eagerly awaiting the day when that nickname fad ends. agreed. But if he doesn't live up to expectations, remember where you heard it first.

  3. Admitting wrongdoing is becoming a way of life in Detroit
  4. Over 6% isn't very modest. Given poor performance it's high. Given average performance a typical cost of living raise is less than 3%. But I still have to agree with poster who said if my employer damaged my ability to perform to the extent his has, they'd have a lot more to worry about than my raise.
  5. I know it was 87, but isn't that the same year Cindy had a thing for guys with moustaches? Ha! I never thought of it that way. . . . I wouldn't be surprised. Ryno is a stand up guy. He'd do anything to save his marriage. I wonder if he spoke with a hispanic accent that season? I was thinking cause rather than effect, but that's a good theory too. There has to be a connection. Sorry, saw conspiracy theory last night.

  7. Is your avatar a pic of Ryno trying to look like Palmeiro? The moustache was in 87. hmm...
  8. I consider them broadcast journalists, but it is a tough choice. After a week, whoever gets more than 5 votes will be inducted into the NSBB polls forum "Bad At Your Job" HOF. I think all of us who post at work should be inducted as well.
  9. Well, Cruz has made a couple million dollars playing major league baseball for 6 seasons, and he's only 28. I wouldn't say he's just like the hundreds of other prospects who didn't pan out, he's one of the few that actually did something good in the majors. He didn't reach his peak, but an extremely low number ever do. Or 25. Or 30. Perhaps 35. No more than 40. Honest.
  10. Surviving 5 shots is more impressive than surviving a brain aneurysm, if we're going to go that route. :stick: Not necessarily. I don't know the nature of Tupac's wounds, but a brain aneurysm is in the second most vital area of survival. Bullets in your leg, shoulder and places like that are easier to survive. The shooting that he survived, he was shot five times. Twice in the head, twice in the groin, and the most serious wound was a shot through the hand that entered the thigh, and hit an artery. I honestly have no idea where that stands w/ a brain aneurysm though. I'd have to imagine being shot twice in the head is right up there on the list of things that would suck pretty badly. Right below intrascrotal hematoma
  11. I was on a fishing trip in Minnesota. I had been running my mouth that there was no point in watching the game that night, lets go out and fish for Pike, 'cause Estes was going to lose. I quoted stats about how bad he'd been. Everyone was tired and wanted to play cards with the TV on in the background. At the time I was writing for cubstalk.com. The guys ridiculed me endlessly about my misjudging an obviously talented pitcher.
  12. It really depends on what your definition of "is" is.
  13. I am in complete concurrence with you. While neither would be fun, I'd much rather have a bruised jaw than an intrascrotal hematoma. Just my two cents. I knew someone would come through with the name of the injury he suffered. While I absolutely love the punch to AJ's jaw, just putting the words scrotal and hematoma next to each other makes my nether region ache. I'll take a punch in the jaw from anyone before I'd take a batted baseball to the... We have Mike Tyson waiting for you outside  Pansy. Barrett could kick his butt. Shewt! AJ could kick his butt.
  14. This wasn't intended to be a thread trashing Muskat (we have plenty of those). It is supposed to be a place to discuss the nastiness of being socked in the jaw by MB vs. being knocked in the rocks in your jock by a foul tip.
  15. Yeah its like the boy who cried "Bruce" or something.
  16. While the punch was quite nasty (those with pics in your sig should post them), I must say that the foul tip had to have been nastier. Nothing against Carrie, but this is one topic she surely has no speaking rights on.
  17. working the count to get a good pitch>walking>swinging at the first pitch
  18. If you want to take pressure off him, he's always said he prefers hitting 6th. Maybe sliding him to 5th if he struggles wouldn't be a bad idea. That said, I don't expect him to struggle. He won't hit like he did in 2005 but I think we can expect .380/.570/.950 from him 2005 = 1.080, carreer = .863
  19. My thoughts exactly. If someone wants to say ERA isn't a great stat then say that. Saying ERA doesn't mean jack when it comes to ERA is just self-contradicting unless i'm missing something. You are. He meant ERA doesn't mean jack in predicting the next year's ERA. An overstatement of a decent point. BABIP, WHIP, and K/BB are better in predicting "next years" performance.
  20. Well it'll make sense when it comes to you. You know, usually when someone discredits a statistic for some reason you're supposed to change the argument. All you did was take the same statistic and show it to me in a different form. It's like you saying that Carlos Lee hits 50 homers per 800 ABs. And then I say that there are other ways to grade a hitter's performance than home runs, then refute my argument with, Carlos Lee hits homers at a rate 25% better than league average. It's the exact same argument and my previous point remains. ERA has little to do with ERA. I wouldn't say a guy with an ERA that's probably going to be five has much if any "production." And yes, Guzman and Marshall can certainly produce the same. Wait. Did you just discredit ERA as a worthwhile stat and then use it to make your point? I think he discredited ERA as a predictive stat. ERA is a good measurement of production. ERA+ even better.
  21. Isn't that the definition of "worth"?
  22. 675 miles in 13 hours. Northern Indiana to Virginia
  23. That's the first time for me. Sorry...a little extra time on my hands.
