  1. Especially not against Ichiro. http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20070220/capt.azet11502202128.mariners_spring_baseball_azet115.jpg
  2. I will say what I have said about Angel for the last 4 years. If he is physically able to pitch, he will do it well. Easily the most talented arm to come thru the Cubs system since Zambrano. I agree. Why is he hurt so often? I hope it isn't because his arm motion sucks, like Woody... I really would like to see his moition now and then. He's a heck of a pitcher and it looks as if Lou thinks that way too. I really don't see Prior as being more effective than Guzman in 2007. did you feel that way three days ago?accusing question> I've felt that way for all of 2007. I'm on record as saying Prior won't be back until June or so and IMO no way will he ever pass Guzman from here on as long as Guzman stays healthy. Honest question, quality answer. I've not had much hope for prior over the offseason, but I must admit I've gotten my hopes up a little with all the positive news out of camp. Right now I'm cautiously optimistic. I think we'll have a definite answer after two more appearances.
  3. Meaning? I'm aware of the small sample size but how often do you continue to steal with him? What if he gets thrown out the next time and is now 2-5? When is the sample the correct size? you pick your spots. you don't let him steal at his discretion. But you don't take away that part of his game.

  5. sample size
  6. I'm sceered of him. Did you see those pictures of him in the ST pictures thread? Yikes
  7. if the bolded section implies "ineffective in later innings" I'd disagree. If it means "became susceptible to arm pain if overused" then its worded poorly. Its not that Wood can't be an effective starter, its that his arm won't hold up to 150+ innings. edit: I also agree that after a couple effective years in the pen, it might be wise to stretch him out. Of course that bridge isn't crossable yet. I was saying that every time he was injured in the last couple years, it's because his arm gave out after 3-4 innings. He would walk off the mound suddenly in the 3rd of a game he was pitching well in. He couldn't take the strain of pitching that many pitches at a time-that's exactly why they moved him to the bullpen in the first place, hoping that if he doesn't go past that pitch mark his arm and shoulder will be able to handle the stress easier. wow. Not sure I agree. I think it was definitely cumulative. And your conclusion makes a jump without a bridge. Even if it was a threshold of pitches per start, its very possible that would change if the workload was lessened and his arm actually got a chance to heal completely.

  9. I like your optimism, keep up the positive thinking. Myself, I'll give him more than 30 pitches before making a snap judgment. He threw 40 My bad. Stick a fork in him, he's done. lol its all about sample size

  11. I used to sorta like the Mariners befroe listening to these dopes.
  12. Are game threads officially the foul language threads this year?
  13. Just as likely Muskat is making it sound better than it is.
  14. Agreed. Many of the predictions out there don't seem to realize DLee was hurt last year.
  15. Can I assume wgnradio.com will be blocked out?
  16. from this angle, Jim looks to have put back on all the weight we thought he lost Ha, I was thinking the same thing but I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Those vertical stripes up close may be affecting the look versus the full length pic we had previously. I also questioned if this was new (taken today) or just newly released... http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20070217/capt.azmg20702172001.cubs_spring_baseball_azmg207.jpg I don't know if this was mentioned... but those stripes are far from vertical. I believe that we call those stripes horizontal. I think 98 was laying on his side as he viewed the pics.
  17. I don't mean to scare you, but didn't Finley sign a minor league deal? That may mean he's available at the end of ST.
  18. I'm excited that not only is Murt batting 2nd, but he's batting second with DeRosa and Itzy in the line-up.
  19. I'm much much much rather have Murton in RF than Jones. After seeing him play last year, I certainly wouldn't say Jones is qualified to play RF. After seeing both of them play there, Jones is a much better fielder at getting to balls and making plays (along with the stronger arm, if he would ever show it). Murton has the much more accurate arm. I'm all for putting Murton in RF part of the time (and I think Murton is an average defender in LF, which is higher than most people think)-but if our defensive outfield on a regular basis is Floyd-Soriano-Murton, there's going to be plenty of gap shots that will be hit against them. Against a right-handed Ace I think you get Floyd-Soriano-Jones but thats less than 30 starts a year. The other 130+ games I think Murton starts in RF more than LF and Floyd gets more start than Jones. Again all assuming Soriano doesn't embarrass himself in CF and Murton doesn't embarrass himself in RF.
  20. If not jones then who?
  21. I think that it's possible that Murton might go to RF and Floyd will stay at LF against leftys if Floyd continues to hit well against them. I just don't have a lot of faith in Floyd remaining healthy but if he does and is productive it's a win-win situation for the Cubs. As I said for the pitchers, I want Lou to have hard decisions because guys are doing well a heck of a lot more than the other way around. Maybe I'm eisegeting, but I'm getting the idea that if Soriano can handle CF, Jones becomes the 4th.
  22. With their payroll if the Cubs fail to contend in a league this crummy then Hendry should be shot out of a cannon Do you honestly believe every single one of those predictions and believe there will not be one single 90-win team in the whole darn league? Also, if I'm not mistaken most predictions gravitate toward the mean. It's not surprising that no team has an excessive amount of wins. Do they use pythagorean wins based on RS/RA? This would account for the lack of outliers. IIRC, the Cubs often underachieve relative to pythagorean predictions
  23. Seconded. All in favor? Ay! eye. oy!! I Oooo!!!!
  24. Yep, I'd rather be talking about Floyd and Murton than Hollandsworth and Dubois.
