  1. Because you are part of a society that has raised, enriched and protected you from birth. You didn't plow out into an unknown frontier and make your fortune from scratch. You earned it within a complex, artificial system. That comes with both privileges and responsibilities, and part of the responsibilities is paying for a basic standard of living for other people. And that includes health care.
  2. The official population is 12,500, but it's more like 20,000 with all the oil workers.
  3. Seabrook in tonight. That makes me feel a tiny bit better.
  4. You probably still would.
  5. Getting rid of Kerry Wood and acquiring Kevin Gregg to be the closer were two separate incidents. One did not force, or even encourage, the other.
  6. Which thread is for woofing about "calling" an upset between two teams you'd never seen play and couldn't name a player from?
  7. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunk_costs#Loss_aversion_and_the_sunk_cost_fallacy
  8. No, you didn't.
  9. lol@NIT teams' fans who care about the NIT
  10. Yup, if you want people to laugh at you behind your back. That doesn't bother me. If it wasn't that, it'd be something else I'm sure. Either way, I like it.
  11. jersey with your own name imo
  12. Brian Qvale, 24 and 10 for Montana right now, is from Williston ND.
  13. I've never bought for one second the idea that goons prevent cheap shots. Wouldn't you be more scared of an injury-inducing cheap shot than some guy hitting you in the helmet a few times, especially when that guy can't force you to fight him?
  14. That fact actually implies the opposite of what you think it does. How so? A player who has gotten better several years in a row is likely get worse in the immediate future, and vice-versa.
  15. The difference between major-league quality and below replacement-level quality is not noticeable visibly at that level.
  16. That fact actually implies the opposite of what you think it does.
  17. When the actual play is semi-competitive at best, sure you can.
  18. I assume we're talking about holding him down for an extra month in 2011, right?
  19. If Theriot and Fukudome were hitting in the top 2 spots in the lineup, you might as well hit Theriot first to avoid all of the double plays he'd ground into with Fukudome on base. No out runners are still worth a lot more than one-out runners, even with the DP possibilities.
  20. People who didn't regard Campbell as one of our best players were being stupid because he's overpaid. When a guy is worth $5 million and gets $7 million instead, they start acting like he's worthless. Campbell is a first-pairing defenseman on most teams and having him on the second pairing was a very good strength for us. In terms of importance, I'd place him roughly equal with Sharp, behind Keith, Toews, Kane, Hossa and Seabrook.
  21. 2007 Anaheim: 10-17-1 from Dec. 23 to Feb. 23 2006 Carolina: 9-11-2 from March 10 to April 24, including losing their first 2 playoff games 2005 Tampa Bay: 5-15-5 from Nov. 25 to Jan. 6
  22. There there little guy, it'll be okay.
  23. I'm definitely not happy with him lately.
