  1. 91 pitches for Garza through 6. I say good game and bring in the bullpen.
  2. If he hadn't made that play, he'd be well set up to be this year's scapegoat. Two failed sac bunts and a defensive botch in the same game would not sit well.
  3. Kyle's hate has created some weird butterfly effect today. The question is, how do we harness this power on a consistent basis. :-k Well, the good news is that my hatred is a more or less unlimited resource.
  4. Cubs did a nice job of working counts against him. Took three walks, but also forced some hitters' counts that turned into hittable pitches. Though they did BABIP him a bit too.
  5. I need to be careful about how I use this power. Because while I did just cause a two-run triple, I think I also broke Travis Wood.
  6. Just curious, where does the Mascot nickname come from? I don't think it's a nickname. It's just my way of expressing my distaste for his being granted a roster spot largely because he's supposed to inspire the other guys to play the right way. Two-run triple. My post made that happen!

  8. First and second, nobody out. Yay! Barney, Garza, Mascot coming up. Boo :(
  9. lol @ stealing 3rd with two outs. We are going to run a lot this year, I'm just going to have to learn to enjoy it. Castro credited with two steals in that inning. His fantasy value is about to go through the roof this year.
  10. There are walks to be had today. Good start.
  11. Moving Vitters to the OF is an absolute last resort. As long as there's a sliver of a chance he can improve enough to stick at 3rd, you keep him there.
  12. Other than the fact that the Mascot is completely washed up and shouldn't be leading off, I don't mind that too much."
  13. I'm going to sell out my principles and use ST stats because I want to believe this is real. Between ST and the first two games at Iowa, Vitters has an isod on the year of .152
  14. It's nice to see Casey Coleman getting lit up in Des Moines instead of Chicago.
  15. Unless the other half of the plan is "draft and develop absolutely nothing for a decade," then it's nothing like the Hendry era. It doesn't have to be a binary "go for it" or "dump everything and forget about the year." You can still make all three of those trades while trying to put a competitive team on the field in 2012. The frustrating thing is that this team is pretty close to being acceptable. If they'd put half the attention into the offense that they put into the rotation, it'd be a nice sleeper team for the playoffs. I'm not making a judgment about the entirety of Theo and Jed. I'm simply saying that tanking the 2012 season was an unnecessary mistake. I really like what they are doing for the long-term future, I just don't think it was necessary to throw away an entire season or more to do it. I believe it was a pretty smart guy who once said: ""Every opportunity to win is sacred. It's sacred to us inside the organization and it should be sacred to the fans as well. They deserve our best efforts to do what we can to improve the club, and put the club in position to succeed in any given season."
  16. If anyone freaked out about landing Theo bc they thought the cubs would win a WS this year, they were hopelessly unrealistic. They could have won the World Series in 2012. There was a significant, non-zero chance of it.
  17. Transparent or not, GMs are judged on the results. No one freaked out about the Epstein signing thinking "Man, we're not going to get any good players, but we're going to make reasonable efforts before failing!"
  18. Yeah. I don't hate him, and I don't expect to get much for Byrd, but we already have like six of that guy.
  19. Unknown. It was either something about respect for Dempster or something about the way the matchups line up for the next few weeks.
  20. If the Cubs show some patience at the plate, they should be the favorites to win this game.
  21. Struck's 7th: single, bunt single+throwing error, HBP, RBI groundout, IBB, K, K So he finishes with 10 K in six innings, and only an intentional walk (assuming he's done). I kinda like this whole "keeping guys down a level" organizational philosophy. Should make for some fun minor league numbers to drool over.
  22. 5 IP, 8 K, 0 BB, 0 HR, 0 R, 2 H, 70 pitches
