  1. Mod edit: This was split off from the thread in polls, as we typically have a thread like this each year. Dolis cruised through the 7th on 8 pitches. Russell still hasn't gotten any work, nor have a couple of other guys. So why is Wood, whose arm was babied all spring, pitching for the second game in a row? Because he's the Designated Eighth Inning Guy. How did he get that role? Because he's a Veteran Presence. It's the kind of thing that wouldn't matter if we had good players, but man is it annoying.
  2. He's significantly more expensive. That's part of the reason he's available.
  3. I had them at 75ish, so starting 0-2 knocks one off of that.
  4. http://www.chicagonow.com/chicago-bulls-talk/files/2011/10/Theo-Epstein3.jpg 2-for-2. The 2013 draft is going be my time to shine!
  5. Henry Rodriguez? There's an ex-Cub name I hadn't thought about in a long time.
  6. Today that made a lot of sense. We stacked up with mediocre righties who can at least kind of hit the lefty, then we didn't adjust to the right-handed bullpen. Pat Hughes is already shilling tomorrow's game with the weather and no mention of the team itself.
  7. At least Johnson had three strikeouts to go with his moderately well-struck hit. We were one ball away from a sure Ian Stewart Hero moment.
  8. Is this a serious question? Wood basically won our only playoff series in any of our lifetimes single handedly. What's that got to do with blowing the second game in a row? You don't just get cheered or booed based on what you did on that day. Wood has a lot more built-up goodwill than Marmol. The fact that he got booed at all is a bit surprising.
  9. On the bright side, ERA justice has evened things out for Wood.
  10. Oh look, there *are* other relievers in the bullpen.
  11. Theo's master plan is coming together perfectly.
  12. Marmol? I know we had to have room for a thousand backup infielders on the roster, but I'm pretty sure we didn't only carry three pitchers in the pen.
  13. I'm too busy hating most of the players to have any room in my heart to hate Sveum, but he's trying very hard to push himself into the picture.
  14. Ewwww. Wood isn't good enough to be your Official Eighth Inning Guy, and regardless his arm needs to be babied a bit and we've got other guys who need work.
  15. Dolis only threw eight pitches last inning. Why not give him the eighth?
  16. I'm going to assume that's a guess, because there's no way Sveum would be that bullheaded.
  17. These last two innings have been the downside of stacking your lineup with lefty-mashers.
  18. Liked what I saw from Dolis, but he does need to get the ball down a little. He was throwing strikes, but a lot of those fastball were being left up a bit.
  19. Jody Davis: "This is one of those situations where you really want to get a hit, but you know it might not happen."
  20. 0-for-3 on the year getting home runners on 3rd with less than two outs (though one scored later in the inning).
