  1. Yet again, I started to turn the game on MLB.tv only to remember I can't get it at work because I'm on the Illinois side of the river.
  2. If we're handing out jobs based on spring training, I don't see why we couldn't shuffle them around based on six starts. That said, Volstads peripherals warrant a continued stay in the rotation regardless of his ERA.
  3. Where the heck did that come from, Casey Coleman?
  4. They also keep adding them back on. But yeah, the roster churn has been entertaining and done in a more than competent way.
  5. There was also another cool little stat today: Today was the first game since 1925 in which both teams used a position player on the mound. The Red Sox and Orioles went 17 innings today with 1B Chris Davis pitching 2 innings and getting the win. Davis had a very pitcher-esque day at the plate going 0-8 with 5 k's. In case you're wondering or you even care, that game in 1925 had Ty Cobb and George Sisler closing out the last game of a doubleheader on the last day of the season for their respective teams. I think that was the one where they were both going for the batting title and it was a "let's settle this head to head' thing.
  6. The infielders would play shallower. More balls would get through, but they'd throw him out on the ones they got to.
  7. I don't. Wood will be fine. kool aid tastes great It does when your mom makes it.
  8. Would Rizzo have been able to keep his foot on the bag? He's two inches shorter.
  9. The number of foul pops in this inning are absurd. Some of those have to become whiffs or balls in play eventually.
  10. Wood is so good he's taking out opposition hitters when they do get hits off him.
  11. I liked that, honestly. The CF was running away from the throw, and with his speed he's got to do stuff like that to be useful. Never mind, I'm apparently behind on the feed.

  13. All that said, it's early, etc. etc. The last time I was this concerned that the Cubs had made a huge fool of themselves with a bonus baby pitching prospect, it was Jeff Samardzija.
  14. Going into the offseason, he was supposed to have subpar velocity, but be 19 and advanced. One out of three in this case is quite bad. I've got 0 out of 3 - what am I missing? He actually does have subpar velocity. That was the one thing out of the three that was true.

  16. He's out of options, which is really the only reason he 'won' the job over Travis Wood to begin with. cmon... he clearly out-pitched him in ST. Which, as always, is proving to be meaningless. Well Wood has been called up to take Garza's start tomorrow, so we'll get to make a first hand comparison. I'm not expecting much, but the bar hasn't been set real high.

  18. The free baserunner came home to score. Idiots.
