  1. Preview of the decisive inning of the 2018 World Series.
  2. Even I can't get up enough of a doom boner to believe that a 25-year-old reliever might be the centerpiece for the best healthy pitcher on the market.
  3. I hate to say it, but I'm getting optimistic again that we may be able to deal him anyway. I'm getting a little optimistic too. Greinke being dealt can only be good for us. Who's left? Johnson? He sucks.
  4. Well, for one thing, 10% of the starts he would have made in the regular season are now gone. For another, I assume the reports that the Braves don't want someone who isn't enthused about playing for them are true.
  5. I believe the Cubs will keep Ryan Dempster around for 2013 about as much as I believed the Red Sox were going to keep Epstein on the payroll in 2012. The bridge is burned.
  6. Notice I didn't say 'garbage', I said small return. I'm guessing one or two live arms with some upside. Better than Cates, not as good as Gould.
  7. Exactly: Dempster next year would be an innings-eater, marking the time until Epstein and Co. feel like trying to win. You can always go get another one or three of those, mineaswell get a small return for him now.
  8. Dempster at 12.5M for 2013 is worth far more than a "small return" Yeah Kyle has lost his mind apparently I guess we'll see. I predict Dempster is a Dodger by the deadline, and the Cubs don't get back anyone with better than a marginal case to be in our top-15 prospects.
  9. Dempster at 12.5M for 2013 is worth far more than a "small return" Unless they intend on drastically changing their apparent intentions for 2013 (which would be awesome), not really.
  10. Cubs will buckle. At the end of the day, they'll have to be practical and accept that Dempster is of virtually no value to them, so even a small return is a net win.
  11. I thought the reports were that they hadn't seriously talked an extension with him in quite some time.
  12. They gambled and appear to have lost. I'm not willing or qualified to say whether it was a good gamble or not.
  13. Vitters adds a double in his second AB, after tripling in his first.
  14. So in other words, Dempster completely screwed our negotiating leverage and the Dodgers know it. *chants "Cashner for Rizzo* to feel better*
  15. Are you sure? Because Theo doesn't seem the type to pull the trigger unless he's getting everything he wants or he has no choice. If he can wait, he'll wait.
  16. That's how you guarantee you are .500.
  17. Never forget the Ryan Flaherty/Jeff Baker platoon that would put up a similar WAR to Aramis. Jeff Baker: Awesome against lefties Ian Stewart: Terrible and injured as was easily predictable Aramis Ramirez: Better than I would have guessed Ryan Flaherty: Pretty awful. So I'm batting .500 on that one.
  18. When Ian Stewart puts up a 2.0 WAR, feel free to ask me how I feel about him. Hasn't happened yet.
  19. Could just be he want's to focus on the birth of his child. What an ass. Pitchers' families are screwing up our trade deadline. Single pitchers, new market inefficiency?
  20. Maybe someday Stewart can be reclaimed to those heady days when he was a 1.5 WAR player.
  21. :banghead: This is turning into the trade-deadline equivalent of the 2008 NLDS.
  22. Stunning dark horse now leading in the Cubs Scapegoat To Run Out of Town sweepstakes.
  23. Not *yet*. That's why I'm proposing it.
  24. That's not a rule proposal. Proposed board rule: jersey cubs fan's butt stinks, and he has a big butt, and he likes to smell his own butt
