    Well, for one thing, 10% of the starts he would have made in the regular season are now gone. For another, I assume the reports that the Braves don't want someone who isn't enthused about playing for them are true.

    I believe the Cubs will keep Ryan Dempster around for 2013 about as much as I believed the Red Sox were going to keep Epstein on the payroll in 2012. The bridge is burned.

    Notice I didn't say 'garbage', I said small return. I'm guessing one or two live arms with some upside. Better than Cates, not as good as Gould.

    Exactly: Dempster next year would be an innings-eater, marking the time until Epstein and Co. feel like trying to win. You can always go get another one or three of those, mineaswell get a small return for him now.

    Dempster at 12.5M for 2013 is worth far more than a "small return" Yeah Kyle has lost his mind apparently I guess we'll see. I predict Dempster is a Dodger by the deadline, and the Cubs don't get back anyone with better than a marginal case to be in our top-15 prospects.

    Cubs will buckle. At the end of the day, they'll have to be practical and accept that Dempster is of virtually no value to them, so even a small return is a net win.

    Never forget the Ryan Flaherty/Jeff Baker platoon that would put up a similar WAR to Aramis. Jeff Baker: Awesome against lefties Ian Stewart: Terrible and injured as was easily predictable Aramis Ramirez: Better than I would have guessed Ryan Flaherty: Pretty awful. So I'm batting .500 on that one.
