  1. Really want to do a Vegeta meme about this, but I won't. DBZ is stupid, but that was amusing. *squints eyes at you menacingly for 25 minutes interrupted only by commercial breaks, then calls it a day*
  2. I don't even want to know what this does for our Pythagorean W%. It'll just make me mad.
  3. Soler: Hooray! Baez 0-for-4 with 3 Ks, putting over 30% again I think :banghead:
  4. They wouldn't be doing their due diligence if they didn't scout the crud out of the top 5 or 6 guys, at the very least. If Appel goes to the Astros, and we found someone we liked more than Gray, I'd be pretty happy. I hate helium pitchers. It's like a double-whammy of untrustworthiness in a prospect. If the draft had been six months ago, Gray could have been Manaea, who is now throwing mid-80s.
  5. Nobody wants to start an archive war, because anybody who has ever posted 10 baseball opinions in their life is going to look silly for at least five of them.
  6. The manager has to be very careful ripping Stewart in public for doing something he's allowed to do by the CBA. But voluntarily missing four games just because you can, when you are already with the team, is very odd behavior for a guy trying to earn his way back to the big leagues. Unless there's a very good explanation we don't know about, like a sick family member or something, then it cannot be going over very well behind closed doors with the front office, coaches or teammates.
  7. Vitters seems like he could be the 3b version of Castillo.
  8. Josh Vitters: HR Ian Stewart: Not in lineup
  9. Out of the 16 shortstops who qualify to make Fangraphs' list for 2010 to 2013, Castro is also dead last in error runs by a fairly decent margin (-21.4, Ian Desmond is -14.3, no one else is even -6). He made a decent-sized leap in that regard from 2010 to 2011, but was essentially the same in 2012 and is off to a much worse start in 2013. I don't think it's quite as easy as saying "he's improved every year!" and shrugging it off.
  10. Gray would probably be our No. 1, though not unanimously, and I'd say somewhere between 20 and 30 on the top 100s.
  11. I don't want to speak for Tim, but I think the point is that if you look at the predictions we were making for Castro after his rookie season, and after his second season, and compare them to what he's actually done since, there's a pretty noticeable difference.
  12. Stewart not in the clubhouse for either game yesterday: http://www.desmoinesregister.com/article/20130505/SPORTS1402/130505008/Chicago-reliever-Fujikawa-solid-as-Iowa-Cubs-finally-get-back-to-baseball?Sports
  13. When a whole bunch of not HOF hitters were Castro's age, they hit some stuff too
  14. You still think this? Absolutely yes. A 77-win pace would be 15-16 at this point. Being four games behind your true talent level is not exactly unheard of at this point.
  15. Baez working on a Brett Jackson Special, BB and 2 Ks so far. Vitters 2-for-4 with a HR in the first game for Iowa.
  16. It would be nice if some of the guys in the minors could contribute. Rafael Dolis and Blake Parker might work out. Tony Zych is a prospect worth keeping an eye on in AA. They all look pretty mediocre right now, at best. The only guy at AA or higher that looks impressive right now is Rosscup.
  17. So other than just regression to the mean, do we even have a path to a decent bullpen in 2014? Maybe Fujikawa comes back and is at the high end of our hopes, they give up on Vizcaino starting quickly and he moves to the pen, and we get one good offseason signing.
  18. Listening to the radio here..... what on earth is a "slide-piece" ?? slider
  19. JD, you are awesome, but stop saying "slide-piece."
  20. Ian Stewart isn't. Apparently, he decided he wants to take some of his 72 hours to report after being optioned, despite already being in Iowa. This is the second day he's missed. Awkward.
  21. Ian Stewart is kind of AWOL? http://blogs.desmoinesregister.com/dmr/index.php/2013/05/04/where-oh-where-is-ian-stewart/article
  22. So much for regression to the mean for the bullpen. After last year's -5.93 WPA (30th in MLB, about 8-9 wins below the league average), they've managed to be on pace to be more than twice as bad this year. -2.93 WPA, again 30th in the league, and already almost four wins below the league average.
  23. I seem to recall getting a lot of heat after 2011 for saying I didn't think he was a .340 BABIP hitter in the majors long-term.
  24. It's his third, he had one late last night too. We jinxed him pretty hard.
