  1. If we get into a DP situation in the ninth, maybe let's not chop down on low pitches early in the count, mkay?
  2. So today brings our bullpen's net WPA down to -3.23 for the season. League median is +0.79. Last year's bullpen, also dead last, was -5.93 for the whole season.
  3. That was our 25th WP+PB this season. League average is 14.
  4. So we're not too right-handed and Kevin Gregg is closing, but we can't catch the ball, so the curse of the 2009 Cubs continues.
  5. Hey look, it's a right-handed reliever with mediocre stuff pitching a high-leverage 8th inning.
  6. It seems weird, but despite the fact that Russell gave up a run, it was the wrong move to put him in because any pitcher giving up a run there is unlikely and Russell needs to be saved for more important spots.
  7. I mostly give him a pass because the bullpen is so terrible there's not much to be done, but this one annoyed me a little. :banghead: You can't call that there.
  8. So Sveum wastes our only useful relief pitcher on the all-important 2-out, none-on situation, and that pitcher then blows the lead anyway, because Cubs.
  9. I'd like to thank the Cardinals for all these OOB.
  10. I was going to say the same thing but feared people would think I'm freaking out this early. But, yeah, he's making me sad. Fangraphs does this cool thing where they add his ZIPS projection for the rest of the year to his current stats. It projects Castro to 287/321/430 for 2.5 fWAR.
  11. Kozma was going all the way. Sweeney fielded the ball and squared up like he was going to throw home, but then fired a perfect throw to second. Carpenter hadn't severely overrounded the bag or anything, but he got caught by half a step trying to get back.
  12. Carpenter really belly-flopped that slide, more down than forward.
  13. Definitely agree. I feel like with one exception, they've done about all they could do with this team for this season with the payroll they had to spend. It's really underlining how hard it is to build an MLB bullpen without having some quality, young, hard-throwing guys to fill it out.
  14. My inner meathead just swooned at how Rizzo shortened his swing and went the other way for that hit.
  15. Schierholtz. For some reason, it just seems more believable that he could be long-term useful than Valbuena.
  16. I'm inclined to agree with you but what grievance could he file? He's no longer injured. I could easily imagine the Player's Association having a problem with them releasing him immediately after he took the 72 hours he was technically allowed by the CBA.
  17. No Stewart in Iowa's lineup today. I'm guessing they have washed their hands of him but can't release him immediately or risk a grievance.
  18. You have to make room for multiple boners, doom or boom. What was that quote that one of the Cubs front office guys had about Baez when he scouted him in high school? Something like "I don't know if this guy is going to be Manny Ramirez or not make it past AA."
