  1. At this point, I don't blame them either. I blame Ricketts.
  2. Oh it isn't, but if you were on board with the hire and after they said what the plan was, it's foolish to then jump off board in a year and a month after the plan starts. No? I guess. But they've spoken in some many waves of doublespeak that anything they do could be found in it afterwards. It wasn't as clearcut as you are saying.
  3. I don't understand how telling someone your plan in advance means that it's justified no matter what.
  4. Depends on how hard we dump. If they feel like 2014 isn't happening, or if they feel they can do another round of mid-range FA replacements, then we could really cut to the bone and trade DeJesus, Soriano, Navarro and Villanueva to go along with the expiring contracts. That might get us into variance range of 100 losses. Still an uphill battle, though.
  5. Because every other potential buyer knew that it was a boondoggle. He could have negotiated the price downward or the restrictions away. But he didn't. Negotiating major business deals does not appear to be his strong suit.
  6. To Dale's credit, he looked pretty angry when he went out to get Marmol.
  7. After that bloop single, our bullpen's net WPA is down to -2.79 (league average about +0.7). That's a pace for -15, or more than twice as bad as last year's pen.
  8. Yeah, he was the only one willing to go with the Tribune's terms for the sale. It's looking more and more like that's because the other potential buyers were smart to be scared off by the Tribune's restrictions.
  9. I don't know if it's funnier that we're using our Rule 5 pick in an extremely high-leverage situation, or that he's a reasonable choice given our pen.
  10. But, should we be pissed at Zell or Ricketts? Ricketts is the one who was naive enough to go through with it, right? When evidently no one else was. In a way, its kind of like people being pissed at Sori for taking 136 mill when it was us that gave it to him. To me, if Zell pulled a fast one, its on Ricketts for allowing it to happen. Especially since Zell had no interesr in keeping the Cubs for any length of time under any circumstance. I can be pissed at both equally. Zell followed the same business model he has with other fields: Suck up every last ounce of value then sell the husk to some sucker willing to buy under absurdly unfavorable terms. Ricketts was his sucker.
  11. Any revenue generated by the first phase of the renovations will be going to pay for the next phase of the renovations.
  12. I'm beginning to think we might see it drop even further in 2014.
  13. Yeah. He's done enough in 107 PAs to earn consideration for a promotion from "roster fill" to "prospect," but anything beyond that is way premature.
  14. Ick. There's been a lot of talk lately about the restrictive terms that Zell insisted on for tax purposes (and how Ricketts were the only buyers not to balk at them), but that's even worse. If that can be taken to mean what it seems to mean to this layman, that's a huge bombshell. Because revenue ain't exactly going up next year. I wonder if we're not in for even more payroll cuts.
  15. @#%@#$ Guys, we all played a part in that jinx :(
  16. And it's come with an increase in BB rate and LD%.
  17. This is the point in a video-game season where I'd just see how many beanballs I could throw at a team before I got bored with it. Do it, Shark!
  18. I don't see it. His peripherals hold up very well to his numbers. His BABIP is his line drive rate +0.143. His XBH/1b ratios are on the high side, if anything. He's about 7/10ths of a HR short on HR/FB ratio compared to his rate last year. He might be due another 10-30 points of SLG if you wanted to give him a HR or two, but that's all I see. An .800 OPS is nothing to be ashamed of in the FSL, but it doesn't scream "mid-season promotion" to me either.
  19. It happens to every other team other than the Cubs.
  20. -0.453. Darn near half a win in one game. The leverage index on his final PA was 10.79. I don't think I've seen one that high before. That might be the theoretical max, I guess.
  21. 0-for-5 with 2 GIDPs and that K, Barney's net WPA for this game has to be epic.
  22. I don't think so, because we're playing with 5 IFs, right,?
  23. This would be an epic fake rally if our spirits weren't already crushed and there was anybody left paying attention.
