  1. He's Javier Baezing the American League.
  2. That feels like the kind of trade a team makes in the offseason. Potential trade partners aren't going to want to tear up their team mid-season for Castro, and I certainly want more than just prospects for him. I trust the other GMs to be able to understand regression to the mean and price Castro fairly accordingly. In theory, we shouldn't gain anything on average by waiting to trade him, if that's what we wanted to do.
  3. Hahahaha, watch the 3b on the other team.
  4. The Smokies need to get a hi-res screenshot of the moment when he's at the peak of his jump.
  5. He'd have around a .700 OPS in 100 ML AB's right now. But Castro wouldn't be broken, so call it a draw?
  6. I try, but there's three facts that I can't seem to wrap my mind around being simultaneously true: 1) He has the best OPS of any batter to make 100 PAs in the Southern League this year (passed Puig with that HR) 2) He's the youngest batter to have 100 PAs in the SL this year 3) He's getting good reports on his SS defense. Just one of those three would be enough to make him a squee-worthy prospect.
  7. And it wasn't a terrible pitch or anything. Curveball that got too much of the plate, but was down and had good movement.
  8. This is why I'm expecting him to shoot up the rankings when the prospect guys stop repeating their pre-season opinions and catch up on all the scouting reports and stats in the offseason. If he has like three or four walks in a row, he'd be at 10%.
  9. I'm going to set the over/under on 2014 MLB javybombs at 20, and I really want to take the over.
  10. Hahahaha. When I saw that he was batting third in the ninth of a tie game, I was going to be stunned if they pitched to him regardless of the base/out situation.
  11. Honestly? I always just forget about him. He can be in the mix, too. Cabrera's problem is that I'm still not convinced he's any good.
  12. I don't think so. He can go to AAA if they want. I've just given up on him as a starter, so might as well get some innings in relief out of him before his next inevitable injury. (Obligatory arbitrary endpoint disclaimer) Armando Rivero since July 17, across A+ and AA 8 G, 15 IP, 8 H, 1 ER, 0 HR, 4 BB, 27 K
  13. I think he's going to make the team out of ST next year. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the bullpen jobs are apportioned next spring. Could we run with three lefties? Because I wouldn't hate: Strop, Russell, Rusin, Rosscup, Lim, Rivero, Vizcaino.
  14. Armando Rivero doing Armando Rivero-y things at Tennessee tongiht. 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K. Hat tip to the front office, that one looks like it could be an epic steal.
  15. Corey Black struck out 8 in five innings at Daytona, with only 1 BB and one run. 8 hits, oddly enough.
  16. Sano's AA OPS is actually below Baez's (although his A+ numbers were better), and his defensive profile is worse. And he's doing it in a league with a collective OPS 50 points higher than Baez's. I'm not saying Baez has to be above Sano, but I don't think it has to be the other way around either.
  17. Yeah. Normally, I'd have no trouble going another 10 pages, but I feel bad ruining this thread. Edit: Being a *part* of ruining this thread.
  18. Generally, I expect the prospect pundits to become less and less knowledgeable as the season goes on, just because of the way they divide their attention among 30 teams. They catch up in the offseason. I expect some come-to-jesus articles on Baez from them.
  19. You must not be familiar with Bogaerts. I am a bit. Baez is doing filthier things to AA than he did at the same age, in a much better pitcher's league. And, iirc, with a better chance of sticking at SS.
  20. He's gotta be a top five guy. He's taking walks now, has huge power, and plays short. Buxton, Bogaerts, Correa, Tavares will all be ranked higher. Bradley, Lindor, and Sano are possible as well. Off the top of my head, there is only one guy on that list that I am completely convinced is a better prospect than Baez.
  21. You guys like to make fun of some of our dumber posters for having a lack of self-awareness, but this one's a top-10 of all-time.
  22. I bet you a million internet dollars that this thread would be two pages shorter if you had just said that up front instead of piggy backing on top of arguments saying things that were far more polarizing. I said it several times in the last 10 pages. It gets overlooked because it's less polarizing. Ideally, the last two pages would still exist but with higher-quality posting.
  23. Not being on the 40-man, I don't think that was ever on the horizon. Unless there was some sort of understanding with him when we signed him.
