  2. I only bet when I can bet all the sides.
  3. This is just gonna be my go-to big goal GIF for the whole, long playoff run we're about to have: http://i.imgur.com/RkxjlGW.gif
  4. ill take that bet Why? They really aren't that bad of a team.
  5. Fangraphs has them at 60% to make the playoffs at this point.
  6. That's kinda what happens when you're being out PP'd by a dozen.
  7. i make the same mistake all the time Game threads become Blackhawks threads when I decide they do.
  8. This is setting up gloriously to continue the Blues-Kings pattern from last year.
  9. He's basically back to being the same guy he was the first three years, but with a .300 BABIP instead of .340. I can live with that. It comes out to an average starter, maybe a tick above.
  10. It's almost as if the rigid success cycle that Cubs fans have subscribed to en masse like a religion isn't a real thing.
  11. On a high stick, if you draw any blood it is automatically 4 minutes.
  12. Olt looks every so slightly better than he did at the beginning the season. Still nowhere near good nor do I expect him to get there.
  13. But think of all the players we *didn't* get outbid on. Edwin Jackson, Ian Stewart, Gerardo Concepcion, Kyuji Fujikawa, Scott Baker, Jose Veras, Wesley Wright.
  14. Technically, it was before the 2011 season that Oakland's minor league system was so bad (28th by Baseball America). In the 2011-12 offseason, they trade Gio Gonzalez for a foundational trade that completely set up their turnaround. (Funny, why didn't they wait until the next deadline to trade him? That's the smart play, right?) In that same offseason, we held out and held out on trading Matt Garza (one less year of control than Gonzalez, but coming off better seasons), then got nothing when he hurt his arm, then had to trade him the next deadline for a collection of (admittedly interesting) spare parts.
  15. As they proved this year, they won't spend unless free agents magically start becoming five years younger. Having money isn't enough.
  16. Myths and lies, myths and lies. According to Cot's: Payroll without Soriano, $78.6m A's payroll: $82m And that's with Epstein insisting that he's not spending all his money this year.
  17. We're pretty close to the attendance floor, I think. Season ticket holders don't want to give up spots.
  18. They've adopted a policy of holding out on trades for extremely high prices until the last possible minute. This has burned them a few times, but it has meant that the trades they do make have mostly been very good.
  19. Both. Mostly apathy, but the pockets of hatred will be strong.
  20. Wait. So now we are trying to say the Cubs have been able to spend money and are not broke? Sort of. It would be awesome if they had more money and hadn't boxed themselves in with a lot of terrible financial systems, *and* Epstein and Hoyer have done a very meh job with the money they've had to spend. It's one thing to go on about Strop and Arrieta and Pineyro for the cost of Hammel and Hairston. But throw in the cost of Baker, and Fujikawa, and Navarro, and we really spent way too much for what we got. The vast majority of the prospects they've acquired have been from trading off players they inherited.
  21. Who did we actually get in "the system" from sign and flips? Pineyro, Vizcaino. I'm spacing. Where there more? Strop and Arrieta were major leaguers. They committed almost $100m in free agents two offseasons ago. They have not been nearly as broke as you are implying.
  22. I blame them. A lot. They haven't been very good at finding good MLB plaers.
  23. lol no. Not even a fake rally 134-213 (.386)
