  1. If Javy golden sombreros tonight, his K-rate crosses the Brett Jackson line (40%)
  2. Javy 0-for-1 with a K * *- (I haven't actually looked yet, but it's 7:21 p.m. and the game started at 7:05, so that seems pretty likely)
  3. There's no point in keeping Samardzija past this trade deadline unless you plan on making a serious, major commitment in to surrounding him with a lot more talent in 2015.
  4. Eh, it's the game thread. Let him rant at whatever or whomever he wants.
  5. http://img.pandawhale.com/post-28514-oh-this-is-bad-gif-I-should-no-ABlL.gif
  6. Vogelbach has cooled of and his slash line depresses me again. I had kind of assumed he just wasn't hitting enough fly balls and that's the reason his power has never been that great in the minors, but he's actually just not had that high of a HR/OFB% in his career or this year: http://minorleaguecentral.com/player?pid=596129 I'm guessing he shouldn't be a top-10 organizational guy next offeason. He'll go in the 11-20 range.
  7. No one is complaining about the negativity here, more the irrational and hyperbolic posts from Kyle and Andy. There are legitimate gripes with this organization that you, goony and many others have posted. There were hyperbolic posts in this thread, but it wasn't coming from me. It was coming from folks like bukie. Heck, I hadn't even jumped in until he brought my name into it out of nowhere.
  8. What "argument"? Your argument was "guys we have some good players now and also we have some prospects!!" The analysis was so terrible that it doesn't really rise to the level of "argument" for me to respond to.
  9. "I didn't use the word 'rebuilding' and I wouldn't. That's a buzzword in baseball that leads people down the wrong path." - Theo Epstein, Oct. 25, 2011
  10. Sure. I'm not saying we won't be better next year. I'm saying we probably won't be enough better. But you're talking about variance screwing up my example. There might be positive variance instead of the negative variance you're assuming. That's not variance. That's projecting. You were trying to project that all the players who are good now will be just as good next year (they might not be) and that everyone we bring in will be average (I don't see why I should assume that, average players are hard to find).
  11. Sure. I'm not saying we won't be better next year. I'm saying we probably won't be enough better.
  12. And we're still 11-19. But we're going to be "drastically better" next year. Because reasons. Well, I mean, if you do replace 4 terrible everyday players with 4 even average ones, you improve quite a bit...especially if the other 4 are pretty good. Sure. If everyone good stays good, and everyone we bring it does no worse than average, we'll improve quite a bit. But it never works that way, and it won't next year. Some of the guys we bring in will suck, some of the guys we thought would be good will be average or worse.
  13. And we're still 11-19. But we're going to be "drastically better" next year. Because reasons.
  14. I'd rather just have Nelson Cruz or one of the other random OF's we couldv'e gotten and not [expletive] with Rizzo. Sure, that'd be preferable. But what did you actually get? Nothing. I would have rather had Abreu than nothing.
  15. *shrug* He found it a lot easier to get on base and not strike out in his first taste of the PCL than our apparent 2015 starting CFer Alcantara has.
  16. As we showed this offseason, it doesn't matter how much money we have to spend because Epstein and Hoyer don't want free agents unless they are 25. I mean, we'll probably get *something*. Like maybe a Masterson to replace Samardzija, and a veteran outfielder who can maybe start full-time but should probably platoon, and a relief pitcher.
  17. Boston Theo would not have given two poops about "fit." I'd rather have Rizzo in our OF than the turds we're throwing out there this year.
  18. Why would he get pulled in the middle of a game for a promotion? I still don't get that. To give him as much time as possible to travel, I guess? I was trying to be optimistic. The answer is *always* injury. Because Cubs.
  19. Bryant pulled from Tennessee in the 3rd inning. Who wants to play injury or promotion?
  20. I mean if you guys want to double-down predicting massive improvements for 2013 20142015 because of immediate contributions from Logan Watkins Arisemendy Alcantara, Javier Baez Javier Baez, our crummy 3b Ian Stewart Mike Olt and the starting pitchers we get for GarzaSamardzija stepping into the rotation immediately, fine. But quit acting like we're crazy for not seeing it quite the same way.
  21. Josh Vitters hit doubles in a-ball, too.
  22. What's "drastically better" mean? Do I expect us to have a .367 win percentage next year like we do now? Not really. You listed: Alcantara, who can't get his OBP over .300 in the PCL Baez, who is getting completely dominated but it's OK because top prospects always bounce back and never fail Bryant, who might not even be up on Opening Day next year and definitely *won't* have all these contact problems catch up with him and will adjust to the majors immediately And then the rest of the lineup is just the same one we have now. Then the rotation includes a pitcher we won't have, a good pitcher, and then a bunch of turds who are the same turds we have now. It's not nearly as much better as you think it is. Just for 2015 and not long-term potential, it's probably worse.
  23. To the corner store? To first base. A station to or through which he advances a full 26.9% of the time this season. He's Josh Vitters with less power and more CF-i-ness.
