  1. No idea what's actually going on, but my somewhat optimistic take is that as he's learning to control the strike zone, he has dialed the aggression back. Once he gets a firmer handle on when and when not to hack, he can turn it loose on hittable pitches, not virtually all pitches, as he had been. I think it's just a transition period, and I'm not worried about his power disappearing (though I think that if he ever becomes a 40+ HR guy, it'll take a few more years than we were hoping for). Do we want to see him learn to control the strike zone, or do we want to see him sock a few dingers?
  2. 16 straight homerless games for Javy :(
  3. I'm going to be surprised if any team caves on that. I know it feels like every year some team does, but teams are getting pickier and pickier about giving up prospects, and there are other pitchers on the market. I'm curious to see whether they will lower their price or keep him.
  4. Wada in relief for Iowa, which I only can assume has something to do with lining him up for the doubleheader coming up?
  5. Alcantara RBI double for his second hit of the game
  6. The rules did change to stretch the penalties out to two years starting this year. But it's still a good bet that Thurm got something wrong.
  7. It jusy makes me sad because it gives glimpses as to how much of a better place the Cubs would be in if he had panned out. If the Cubs had gotten league-average production from the playing time given to Olt, Schierholtz, Coghlan, Sweeney and Kalish, they'd be over .500 and in the playoff picture.
  8. Because hitting .260 is just easy and anyone can do it with a little elbow grease.
  9. I see where you went wrong. Most of the people I'm friends with are reasonably intelligent, but they are complete idiots when it comes to understanding these things. They can be quite smart. You're still going to have stupid arguments on Facebook. Should have seen the one I just had with an organic chemist. It's a simple formula. Be polite to people you know in real life. Message boards with strangers is where you get to argue like an asshat.
  10. When did Justin Grimm go below replacement level? Ouch
  11. 2 [expletive] teams sandwich a World Series win. Man Boston Strong is powerful That stupid WS fluke makes it *really* hard to point out how that organization got worse the longer it's been since Epstein was in charge, even though it's true.
  12. Everyone is saying Cease is signing tomorrow for about $1.5m
  13. I think tonight's gonna put his OPS over .900
  14. I kinda want him to start hitting home runs again.
  15. Wow, slow down with the expectations there...
  16. All this time Theo was just building a team optimized to hit in Fenway.
  17. Remember when Rizzo was destroying AAA a few years ago? Bryant is doing that +100 points of OPS and being a third baseman.
  18. We should try this "hit the ball over the fence" offensive strategy more often. It seems to be working for us.
  19. Never, *ever* talk baseball with people you know.
