  1. They said he wouldn't, iirc, but you never know whether to believe them until it's too late for them to post him.
  2. The pre-ST glow period is hitting early where I start to feel happy and generous to everybody who could potentially make the roster. Javy Baez? Decent defense and crazy power should carry you to at least a bit of value. Logan Watkins? Sure, I can live with you as a 6th infielder. Mike Olt? You could be a useful bench piece of used correctly. Junior Lake? Nah, I'm not going that far. Feel free to rot in Iowa, Junior Lake.
  3. That quote really tilts me. I really, really hope that if we hadn't landed Lester it wouldn't have been straight to Operation Shutdown Part 4. But it's moot, so woo-hoo!
  4. Someone said today that the Cubs expect it to be resolved by the 15th, same for the one we have to send to Boston.
  5. Some 25-year-old minor league infielder who has never played above AA.
  6. The prospects are apparently going to be the ones they get from Boston in the other deal?
  7. Only if we don't have to give up Bryant or Russell.
  8. Flipping through the projections for various teams, what really gets me is how deep the Cubs are in ways that most teams aren't. Both in pitching and position players. And I think it's feasible to imagine second-half contributions from Russell, Edwards and Johnson.
  9. is this intended as hyperbole? it's dead wrong It's probably hyperbole. They'd take all 3. But two is probably fair value.
  10. I'm not "out" for such purposes, but it is absolutely well-earned.
  11. Says the guy who spazzed because the people who are actually running the team got a major-league starter for a fringe prospect.
  12. Fangraphs added formal projected win totals to their 2015 projections (something about BaseRuns instead of raw WAR totals or whatever), and they have the Cubs at 84-78, 11th in baseball, fifth in the National League.
  13. Bryce Harper is not a "2015 or bust" player you prospect-slurping goon. Trading away all of our top prospects for anybody, which is what it would take for Harper, would be an incredibly short-sighted and stupid move. As would trading any of our top 4 for a rental in Upton. If Bryce Harper was still in the minors, he'd be OPSing 1.200 as CFer in AAA and they'd retire the No. 1 overall prospect spot so that all future prospect lists had to start at No. 2. *Not* trading multiple top prospects for Bryce Freaking Harper is short-sighted. He's *younger* than several of those prospects you're scared to trade.
  14. My favorite Meph moment was when he calculated with utter sincerity that signing Peavy was worth 2 championships or whatever.
  15. Bryce Harper is not a "2015 or bust" player you prospect-slurping goon.
  16. He was hitting baseballs at an above-average MLB ability level before he was old enough to buy beer. Like Starlin Castro. Except with power and more walks. But sure. Like Castro but better.
  17. He was hitting baseballs at an above-average MLB ability level before he was old enough to buy beer.
  18. If they demanded say Rizzo and Russell would you even turn that down? I'd try *really* hard to get them to ask for something else because it's awfully late in the year to be finding another 1b. But the value doesn't bother me.
  19. Basically they can have their choice of any two players besides Rizzo and if they insisted on their choice of any three players I would at least think about it.
  20. I swear to god and I completely mean it that I will never, ever say one bad thing about the front office on any Cubs-related web site ever again if we acquire Bryce Harper this offseason.
  21. For the record, he's younger than Bryant.
  22. For Bryce Harper they can have their choice of 2 of Russell, Bryant, Baez and Soler.
