It was pretty great when TT put together a spreadsheet for projecting 2012 wins and if you tried to make LaHair the starting 1b it'd just tell you "no."
Hope Javy is recruiting for us :-) Javy sent him a text and addressed it to "John" and Lester was touched that Baez took the time to get it so close to right.
that was so awesome. part of me almost wanted him to finish it. i can't believe he's still playing. I was 8 years old when he helped torch the Hawks in the Final. I can't believe that.
Those projections are sometimes screwy as hell and not at all gospel, btw, but they're good about updating every time someone makes a move and it's fun.
The Fangraphs depth chart projections now have Montero as our second most valuable position player behind Rizzo at 2.3 WAR in 383 PAs (the catching total at 3.4). 3 games behind the Giants for a playoff spot and 0.2 behind the Brewers for third.
I don't have a problem with Baez not being a starter next year, but not in favor of @#$@# white Ronny Torreyes. Get Headley or trade for another infielder.
I'm either happy or sad depending on what Lester signs for, how we follow up on it, and what would have happened in alternate universes where we don't sign him.
Anything can be worth 5 wins in highly specific circumstances. Nobody's expecting the difference between Castillo and Montero to be five wins every year.
Win shares were always dumb. From day one. Unless you're taking the position that pitch-framing is completely irrelevant, then we can all agree that fWAR for catchers is suspect.
