  1. You can use whatever adjectives you like, Valbuena and Fowler project to be nearly identical in value.
  2. I'm not against the move. I mean, we're probably a tiny bit better than we were yesterday. I just wanted us to trade a prospect for someone Fowler-esque and keep Valbuena.
  3. Fangraphs upgrades us to 84 wins after this. They mostly think Fowler kinda sucks, but they gave Bryant 150 more PAs of playing time and that bumped us a win.
  4. Proving yet again that players are chasing the top-line number and don't care as much about the true value.
  5. You only listed two players that we are even pretty sure are quality MLB players. And that's only because I really like Alcantara.
  6. who knows if he's just guessing or if he actually got this information from someone Joel Sherman ‏@Joelsherman1 2m2 minutes ago Secaucus, NJ #cubs plan to play Olt, LaStella maybe Alcantara at 3b until Bryant is ready http://media.giphy.com/media/Uokcadx2DDgoU/giphy.gif
  7. I'm at the point where I'd be relieved if we got replacement-level value in aggregate from 2b next year. I fear worse.
  8. Hooray we fixed the outfield. Boo we broke the infield :(
  9. Scherzer to not the Giants or Cardinals makes me happy.
  10. I'm going to focus on how much I enjoy seeing home heavy favorites get jobbed rather than who is winning.
  11. Oh yay...can't wait to hear about the Sox's response at their fan fest next weekend b/c you know they love to pander to their meatball fan base. Let me guess, something original like 100+ years and counting? I don't know if it's fair to complain about a team catering to their meatball fanbase in a thread about the Cubs Convention.
  12. If you replace 2014 Trout with 2014 Baez and even out the playing time, the Angels lose 11 extra games and go from the best record in baseball to out of the playoffs entirely.
  13. Probably not, but maybe.
  14. He was on pace to put up a 3.5fWAR season before the fluke injury which would have put him 6th. He had the same or more PAs than three of the players he just passed in your hypothetical. Still 9th.
  15. It's a weird list, but Castro finished 12th among SS in fWAR last year. His exclusion isn't a travesty.
  16. I expect the Giants to shoot past us in the projected standings when all the moves are done and we'll be sitting there at 6th. Which is a really annoying place to sit, but still a helluva lot better than 12th.
  17. Honestly? I don't think so. There's a reason the very best manager gets paid about the same as Wada.
  18. http://www.baseball-reference.com/games/standings.cgi?date=2014-07-13 33-35, 9th in NL, with a ton of Pyth luck.
  19. Thinking Javy Baez is going to strike out less in the majors than he did in AAA last year isn't what I would call "conservative." It is nevertheless a 1 win projection. Which sadly may be high by two.
  20. Then gets struck out by Jason Berken. sad thing is i'm as with you as any body short of sneaky on the concern. i keep trying to ask myself how likely it is that i know better than every single prospect evaluator just by looking at the K% column. Prospect evaluators are turds. You know more than them about Cubs prospects.
  21. Thinking Javy Baez is going to strike out less in the majors than he did in AAA last year isn't what I would call "conservative."
  22. Jesus you're almost as bad as Kyle I'm pretty sure we're going to get some kind of outfielder in the next month, and at that point I'm happy to call the offseason a solid B.
  23. Then gets struck out by Jason Berken.
  24. I generally prefer trying to find the next big thing than going with an experienced guy, but this is pretty good. No complaints.
  25. And despite that, football games tend to be won pretty reliably by heavy favorites. A single football game is still less crapshooty than a seven-game baseball series.
