  1. I'm not so certain that we didn't calculate trading Wood and Castillo into whether or not we could afford the signings we already made, meaning it won't actually be extra money when we trade them.
  2. From Logan Watkins' Twitter: "Devastated to say that I tore my Achilles today working out in Arizona. Hard to put into words how sad I am that I won't be apart of the Great season the Cubs are prepared to have." Well, there's a clear openning at Iowa 2b for you, Baez.
  3. I can see the argument that letting the clock run and keeping the pressure on the offense is better than letting them have all the time in the world to choose plays and set formations.
  4. I want him to sign elsewhere, but I'm still gonna be mad in three years when he's the next Trout.
  5. Sure, but I'm not afraid to pay through the nose. You want Russell and three other good prospects? All yours. kill yourself The rebuild was awesome before him, it can survive without him.

  7. I'm fine with that, although I'm surprised you would be. Based on not being able to trust pitching staying healthy. My honest guess is the FO likely falls on that side of things too. I kind of suspect any major trade we make in the near future will bring a seasoned, big bat to us and we'll use FA for pitching. The only thing I hate more than pitchers is hoarding prospects to an extreme degree. But if we must have a major commitment to a pitcher, I want him to be 26, with a completely clean injury history, coming off his first 200 IP season (to prove he can do it, but not too much mileage on his arm).
  8. I'm about 90% with you. It was a little weird, but people are acting like it switched an auto-win to an auto-loss.
  9. Perfect Super Bowl spread predictions: 1 Teams GM'd to a playoff berth: 0
  10. I'm not sure we should be looking at free agency for our second TORP. You are basically locking yourself in to having two post-prime guys for those spots from 2016-2020 or whenever, and those are supposed to be your golden years. Back up the truck on your ridiculous stable of prospects and find someone ace-y at 25-28 in a trade.
  11. I wonder if our Lester frontloading will cost a chance to pick up a bargain Shields.
  12. He only put four Cubs in his top 100. Pitchforks out.
  13. I like the freeform of "you have 8 fielders, do what you will with them" a lot more than codifying positions.
  14. Unless there's a run of injuries, we'll probably see some guys waived.
  15. People have this weird belief that if a player doesn't walk a lot, he must strike out a lot.
  16. I really hope all these projection systems are right and don't just have a blind spot for MiLB Ks.
  17. Didn't you used to be able to see who foe'd you in settings?
  18. I guess I will finally admit he is at least a little better than Harper.
  19. http://www.northsidebaseball.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=54498&p=2201849#p2201849 Ha! Harold Reynolds was right about Trout and Meph wasn't. The next page involves a bunch more posters making fun of Trout.
  20. Wait, is this slash line even remotely correct? http://mlb.mlb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=SS&sid=l132&t=p_pbp&pid=595879 I think he's combining regular season and playoffs, where that link is not.
  21. And everybody wanted the Cubs to get Khalil Greene? Was it Meph who had the JR Towles obsession as well? He argued pretty hard that trading for Jake Peavy was worth two marginal championships. He had all kinds of math about win projections and playoff odds and such.
