  1. But anyway, it didn't matter and there's a bunch more interesting things that happened in the game than some marginal bullpen decision. Kris Bryant is awesome. Jon Lester is iffy and that's kinda scary but it's too early to tell anything. Alcantara is making plans to catch up with friends in Des Moines very, very soon.
  2. They aren't going to be burnt out in any damaging way by throwing a couple days in a row.
  3. Wait, Parker is hurt too? Six relievers hurt, if you count Beeler. I hate pitchers.
  4. I'm gonna go crazy outside-the-box and say I wouldn't mind seeing Edwards get a shot. He's not going to be a starter and the learning curve for pitchers isn't that steep. Let's start raking in the value before his arm gives up.
  5. no you are awfully bad at remembering stuff for a guy who talks so much about stuff I don't remember making any other mista- ... oh.
  6. I find the "on pace" argument to be meaningless. The Cubs have played a series of games that were close in the late innings. That won't always be the case. There will be stretches later in the season where the opposite happens and you can rest them then. Win the game in front of you.
  7. It's crazy that, barring a comeback, we're 6-2 in games not started by Jon Lester and 0-3 in games that are.
  8. We can do this without the snippy personal shots. Or we can do them with, I guess. Either way. Pedro Strop can't ever, ever go a third day in a row after throwing 16 pitches on back to back days?
  9. Rondon, Strop, and Rosscup are not options today, so you're got Schlitter, Coke, Germen, Motte, and Jaxon to get you through the game. None of those are terrific options, and considering the circumstances you'd want to maximize your chance at a double play, which is Schlitter all the way. nope don't argue with the logic fingers guy I didn't know there was a rule against ever using relievers three days in a row, and Schlitter should be behind at least three of those guys.
  10. OK, now it's a great time to bring in a guy like Schlitter.
  11. So Olt sucks and is hurt. Javy sucks and is in AAA. Alcantara sucks and is buried behind Jonathan Herrera on the depth chart. So much for that glut of infielders...
  12. Don't pretend like this is hindsight. We're better than that. Quite the opposite, I'm talking about the shrieking about Schlitter from the moment he started warming up. I don't think it's crazybuckets to ask our 9th-best reliever who is only here because of multiple injuries not be used in high-leverage situations.
  13. Don't pretend like this is hindsight. We're better than that.
  14. We'll throw him in to some rebuilding team who will give him chance after chance after chance because he used to be a top-100 prospect
  15. That's kind of what he does. When you put him in the game, expect belt-high fastballs.
  16. http://www.reactiongifs.com/r/B03c4b4.gif Well, maybe by "you" he meant "people who support or are employed by the San Diego Padres"?
  17. dammit i almost made a comment when schlitter was warming up that maddon was putting up the kyle signal Just a coincidence. I was in the car for awhile, just got back.
  18. Our standards for "unavailable" seem ... light. We haven't been using them *that* much.
  19. So you're advocating dumping Castillo then? Because its obvious bed be gone if anyone had given us what we wanted. If we must set up a situation where there is no room at all between "dump" and "take even one penny less than we want," then yes I'd prefer dumping him.
  20. We continue to have the most awkward roster. We're back to an 8-man bullpen with a 4-man bench that includes two catchers. Because we don't want to admit that we need to trade or dump Castillo and Jackson.
  21. Alcantara is full-on doghoused. Russell any day now?
  22. It's all come together so fast. But with Soler, Bryant, Montero, Fowler, you've swapped in half an offense worth of guys with good batting eyes since midseason last year.
