  1. 4.57 FIP and 4.54 xFIP, on pace for about 0.7 fWAR. He technically meets the requirements of "improve the rotation," but in the most ridiculously minimal way possible.
  2. *If* by some miracle they had six good starting pitchers and every single one of them was healthy come Opening Day, I'd put Hammel in the pen, but ymmv.
  3. Cubs are No. 2 in the NL and No. 4 overall in Pythagorean variance. If we were having even a little bad luck in that regard, we'd be looking at yet another selling.
  4. Way to only hit one amazing, crucial, clutch home run this week, Kris. You jerk.
  5. Yeah. And the way we put together a pitching staff means we pretty much always need to be acquiring pitching. If we want the 2016 staff to be as good as this one, moves like this are probably needed. But also for this year.
  6. Because Baez still needs rehab time and the thin upgrade from Castro to Herrera isn't worth forgoing the slightly less thin chance that Castro turns it around.
  7. Oh please oh please oh please somebody take Mike Olt so I don't have to hear about him next spring when he has a new swing and hits 3 home runs in the first 10 days of March.
  8. Technically trade deadline related but the game threads are the traditional place for meatballing and emotional reactions: I'm actually starting to get nervous that the Cubs are going to stand pat or just pick up some utterly meaningless pitcher who is barely better than a scrap-heap guy, a la Haren.
  9. Even funnier if they get into the WC game and we don't. Edit: If you assume the two fangraphs odds are independent, there's a 9% chance that happens.
  10. that will be [expletive] sweet man Today was (will be) a good day.
  11. 23:15 until I get to post a hilarious Willie Wonka gif six times across three Cubs sites.
  12. He's already entered those years. In Kyle Years he should already be in a nursing home. At least he's not a pitcher. Then he'd already have had his arms preemptively amputated.
  13. Canadian dollar is 77 cents now, so if he asks for $30M/per, they'll have to go $39M/per, won't they? (i'm probably in the minority when it comes to my lack of total utter desperation for adding a #1 SP, it's just kind of funny to consider) I'm confused. His contract will be in USD, so he'll have more buying power by being in Canada 81 days a year. why would his contract be in USD if he's employed by a Canadian company? That's just how North American sports leagues work. NHL, NBA and MLB teams all pay their players in U.S. dollars regardless of location. It's in all three CBAs.
  14. I could easily see that quote from Maddon being taken as "Relax, you aren't sitting today because your being traded, its just a day off" Which is almost certainly what he meant. Too late, the narrative is out there.
  15. calm down there, at the very least we're still returning the same full pitching staff that's 4th or w/e in FIP So we return the same pitching staff that is old and was probably overachieving. We return the same offense that is young and probably underachieving. And we add a pitcher, unless the Dodgers buy them all. Then this time next year we can be 1 game up in the second WC instead of 2.5 out, but still like a hundred games behind the Cardinals. God I can't wait.
  16. People are spazzing out because the Dodgers "bought" a fairly meaningless pick in the 30s. Wait until they "pay" $25m for the 3rd overall pick to the Marlins or something.
  17. You honestly don't know what you're talking about. Having a few really elite prospects does technically make you top-heavy because they're all that matter, but the system was and remains extremely deep on the kinda mid-tier prospects that goober fans love to pine for. I don't care what fans pine for. Fans are irrelevant, and mean absolutely nothing in this conversation. Yes ... That is what I'm saying too ... I'm glad we're on the same page?
  18. But he was setting them up to win in the future. You just aren't looking at the big picture.
  19. If he had gone 4-for-14, those 6 games they lost by a combined total of 24 runs would have completely flipped.
