  1. I really don't mind. Frequent days off for starters and reps for backups is a key part of Maddon's genius, and this lineup can afford to run at 85% effort every day and still mash the league into submission.
  2. These games are less than 10 minutes from my house. I got excited for like 2 seconds then confused for five minutes until I figured out the reason tickets to the first game were so cheap was because it was an exhibition game.
  3. I concur. I also thought most christian music tried to be a little less on the nose than that. It was basically a sunday school story sung. The worst thing about Modern Christian music is how lazy the songwriting is. In my day they took creative risks. [bbvideo=560,315]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzaLqn2Qtgo[/bbvideo]
  4. I blame the weight of Meph's expectations.
  5. I expect awesome things from Russell because he's 22 and super talented. I didn't know he was having an awesome spring and it doesn't matter to me now that I do know.
  6. Scott McClain. The man who won't be cut.
  7. Pass. Injured pitchers suck.
  8. I still wish I was a Cardinals fan, but I'm not.
  9. NOBODY ASKED YOU, BRANDON brandon wants to take over kyle's role as the class contrarian I was just catching up on this thread and was gonna say that Almora is either super slow or he Edmondsed the hell out of that catch linked earlier.
  10. The Cubs added like 15 wins worth of players this offseason. That will balance out the plexiglass and pythagoras and stuff they were due to give back.
  11. Kris Bryant seriously threatens 50 HRs.
  12. Seeing this thread bumped in spring training was legitimately scary.
  13. This is gonna be so much fun in the regular season. I think we broke the game.
  14. I really don't want eight divisions. There's no good way to do the playoffs with that. Back down to 8 teams? Lose the awesome WC game. NFL-style 12? Division winners playing in the play-in game is awful. 16? Too many.
  15. Theo is playing Go
  16. When the list of things that concern us starts including what we will do after we win the WS, I'm not too concerned about anything.
  17. Hahahaha. Awesome. This is as close to a perfect baseball team as we will ever see. The answer to any "what happens if X goes wrong" is "they probably win the division anyway" until you get to at least five things going wrong. It would legitimately be impractical to make it any better because it would be just plain inefficient to build sextuple redunancy. Jake Arrieta's arm falls off tomorrow and they can't get it on ice fast enough to reattach it, cubs are still favored to win the division by five games.
  18. http://www.fullertontitans.com/sports/m-basebl/2015-16/files/2016_BSB_Schedule.pdf I'm just a few minutes down the road from Cal Stae Fullerton. Anything on their schedule I should try to catch in terms of seeing pro prospects?

  20. Fangraphs' projections do that about twice a month all offseason. There will be a data entry error and one team's projection will go crazy, then they fix it a few hours later.
  21. I don't think there is anything weird about projecting regression from just about any reliever coming off a good year, and Russell and Soler as injury risks seems reasonable. The under 25s shouldn't project to much improvement. 23-25 has alway been a period of small improvement on average, and in the current era there is even some suggestion that there is no improvement at all in that age group (on average, obviously some players will and some will regress).
  22. Pretty much where I am. I thought it would bother me more than it has, but I guess I'll just have to live with myself enjoying when the best player on my favorite sports team does good things, even though he's probably a scummy person. But I don't go out of my way to talk about him despite the season he's having.
  23. Sure, you can come up with some scenarios where some teams would be disincentived to tank, but I don't think that's the net result of the proposal. Do you think this Cubs team would have been dissuaded by a one-year delay in the results of their multi-year tank? And teams like the White Sox or Padres who have always played the "try every year" game are now never going to have a real chance at a title unless they shut it down, tank, and build up a superteam. It basically turns MLB into the NBA.
