  1. Can this please be the last year of stretch singing?
  2. As awesome as Soriano is, Glenallen Hill has more awesomeness in his pinky finger than Soriano does in his whole body. Uhhhhhhhhh...what? Hill had an awesome homer, but Soriano is actually, y'know, useful. Usefulness makes you useful. Roofblasts and making Mets relievers pee their pants with a staredown makes you awesome.
  3. As awesome as Soriano is, Glenallen Hill has more awesomeness in his pinky finger than Soriano does in his whole body. Soriano just has to take the ball his just hit and add another 150 feet.
  4. Huge, huge, huge pitch. Very borderline, but they gotta be called one way or the other :)
  5. McLouth plunked. 6-3, bases loaded, 2 outs. Rockies one ball away from having bases loaded, two outs too :(
  6. The curse of the relief pitcher. Like the offensive lineman or the defensive defenseman, you are only noticed when you don't succeed.
  7. Adequate outing from Gallagher. Every one of those solidifies his spot in the rotation.
  8. Edmonds may be spectacular at making catches at the edge of his range, but his range is steadily shrinking. Pie makes that play.
  9. Using Baseball Prospectus' PECOTA-adjusted playoff odds report, and a basic run expectancy chart, the odds of the Cubs missing the playoffs at this point are almost identical to the odds of getting zero runs out of a bases loaded, no out situation: 15%. Does that make us feel better or worse?
  10. What's the percentage of not scoring with the bases loaded, no outs? Though fortunately it didn't happen here. Isn't it around 12%? Oh no, Mark "Unclutch" DeRosa is up. When's the last time he drove in a key run?
  11. There are two things objective, statistical analysis can tell us (just like it told us at this time last year that the Cubs had a decent chance to pass the Brewers): 1) The Cubs are better than the Cardinals, and it's not close, and are almost certainly the NL's best team. 2) That still leaves a small but real chance that the Cardinals will manage to finish ahead of them. I'm not going to let No. 2 ruin my appreciation of No. 1.
  12. If we don't get a run here, I will be disappointed.
  13. Ugh. Is there anything we can do to just make the Cardinals go away? Anything at all? Beat them head-to-head. Unfortunately we can't do that for awhile. Honestly, though I'm still torn on whether they are legit or not, I keep a closer eye on how far above the wild-card we are. Games clear of a playoff spot is what makes me comfortable.
