  1. He looked as bad as it is possible to look without Ankieling. Everything was ripped.
  2. Absolutely. This team has the best chance of anyone of the league of going to the playoffs (and yes, I include the Diamondbacks in that assessment). If they don't, oh well, but the odds are strongly in their favor.
  3. No, but I'd rather have him than Edmonds as half a platoon at this point.
  4. Well that wasn't Lofton's fault. He had a 120+ OPS with the cubs. Yes, but that's not the point. There's this fantasy out there that having a guy like Lofton "sparked" the offense and led us to the playoffs. The offense got worse, the pitching got enough better to make up for it.
  5. Lofton? Our CF defense just keeps getting worse and worse and worse. I'll accept him on the condition that every Cubs fan be made aware that our offense got worse after the Lofton/Ramirez trade that season.
  6. Although I still say it's funny, the "xxx just homered" game peters out fast with a team less than two decades old.
  7. New to being a Cubs fan? "This has got to be Shawn Estes' last start." "Lenny Harris has surely played himself out a job." "At least we won't have to worry about Theriot starting at SS next year" (though this one isn't turning out so bad." "Well, at least Neifi is just a rental." "If we catch lightning in a bottle with Gaetti, great, but even if not it's not like he'll be back next year." "This has got to be Jason Marquis' last start."
  8. Just stop. I'm not trying to call you out Kyle, just the people who keep this going on. We get it, Lilly is batting practice pitcher today. I feel an epic comeback is coming today. C'mon, it's more entertaining than the game itself :)
  9. Quinton McCracken is asking about a pinch-hitting opportunity.
  10. After 5 games, Lilly had a 7.30 ERA. Hill has a 4.12. Lilly has been pretty good in MAy, which is what I was referring to. I fail to see how Rich Hill, who has been in AAA has contributed more than Lilly during that period. It's a sum thing. Every pitcher looks good if you remove the times he is bad. The argument makes me :banghead: .
  11. And somehow found a way to be out on the basepaths. Like being touched by the base coach or something.
  12. I want to slap everyone who said "Edmonds is a no-risk, high-reward move" in the head.
  13. If the Indians get hot you can forget about it. Indeed, but it's not going to stop me from praying. With what top prospects? Unless the Cubs can somehow negotiate an extension for him, I get the feeling he'd be a rental. The price won't be quite as steep as you might think. It's a supply/demand thing. There will be a ton of teams still in the race short on starting pitching, rental or not.
  14. *sigh* So we're one of the dozen or so teams that spend the whole year thinking that "all" they need is one really good pitcher? Join the freaking crowd. There will be very few No. 2 quality starting pitchers available at the deadline and teams lining up to get them. The price will be more than Hendry will be willing to pay, I'd bet. Probably more than our farm can even afford.
  15. Even in the first, four runs is a lot more than it seems: http://www.fangraphs.com/lgraphs/280530116_Rockies_Cubs_78050000_lbig.png Even the outs were smoked in that inning.
  16. This game thread's gonna be fun for the next few hours.
  17. Reason No. 323 that errors are a stupid stat and should be done away with.
  18. As one of the minority of Cubs fans who were blasting Baker for pitch counts before it was cool to do so, I'm okay with Zambrano's 130-pitch start. Some guys can handle that sort of a load, and he's proven to be one of them. It's stupid to take a young, untested arm and find out whether he can handle it or not. But a guy with Zambrano's age and history? I'm okay with the occasional stressful outing.
  19. "I wonder if somewhere in his house Derrek Lee has Jeff Francis' Colorado No. 23 jersey hanging up, because he really has his number." I'm not kidding. Len really said that. Shut up, Len.
