    As soon as I saw the camera angle today, I knew we'd be hearing a lot of this. It's way off to the right of the pitcher, noticeably more than in most parks. That's what makes things look closer than they are on the outside corner to a righty.

    He's been doing things right all season. You should pay closer attention. He's been doing almost everything except getting on base wrong this year. ...which is far more important than anything else. Dude's hitting .310 with an OBP that's been around .400 for the last two months, and people still want to bitch. Unreal. What's wrong with pointing out that a player has a tendency to do bad/stupid thing while still being productive? Moises Alou.

    Kazmir looks anything but dominant. Wild all over. If the Dempster can avoid reality for another start, things are good. Ramirez definitely went there, though I doubt most Cubs fans will see it that way :)

    This could be a false impression, but it seems to me the Cubs always do a good job working counts the first inning of the first game of a series.

    I understand the difference, I just disagree with it. People like Gallagher because he's new and has a great future. They hate Marquis because...well, I can't completely figure out why they hate Marquis. He's working on his fourth ERA+ in three digits in the last five seasons as a starter. But I think people bend over backwards to make Gallagher seem better than he is right now, and it gets a little annoying.

    The problem with instant replay is that it takes way from the moment. I hate missed calls too. But I hated it more back a few years ago in the NHL when they were disallowing half the goals and you could never really get excited when the red light went off because you knew there was a good chance it was coming back. Or when Devin Hester breaks off a huge return, but instead of cheering you are looking around for flags.

    If the Cubs got to use a designated fielder, and we wasted it on Edmonds in CF, I would literally give up right there. That'd be the last straw.

    Jason Marquis has a better ERA than Sean Gallagher.

    I agree with that statement, but our own roster is a consideration. We have a platoon that's a decent probability of putting up an .800-.850 OPS(with subpar defense) going forward. The upgrade to Beltran's .850-.900 OPS(with good defense) is probably a smaller one than using Sabathia/Burnett to replace Marquis or your best buddy Gallagher. However, Beltran would fix a problem long-term, unlike a Sabathia(and possibly Burnett), so it's still tempting. Too bad Edmonds/Johnson doesn't have the trade value Gallagher does. It's the defense especially that gets me. Defense is important, and defense in CF is especially important, and I feel like we're just punting it for an adequate platoon. Everyone and their mother will be in on the Sabathia sweepstakes (if he's even traded). 15 teams in baseball think they are a SP away from contention.

    LOL at the consistent predicting of the Cardinals to fall apart, regardless of how many times it's been wrong this season. We are *way* past the point where current record (even Pyth Record) has predictive value. They are more than likely at least an average team.     Here are the FIP (fielding independent ERA, essentially) of the three pitchers mentioned in this thread: Sabathia 3.31 Burnett 3.31 Harden 2.75 Burnetth as been a BABIP/timing of hits victim this season. He'd be a huge coup and a legit No. 2 for this team, and I would absolutely love to have him at almost any price (given how sad our minor leagues are). Power rotations win in the playoffs.

    Doitdoitdoitdoitdoit. A run scored is just as valuable as a run denied, and in this market I suspect it'll be a lot easier to add some runs scored in CF than to add some runs denied via SP.

    This point about removing blowouts from Pythagorean record makes no sense. The entire *point* of pythagorean record is that blowouts can be a strong indicator of how good a team is, moreso than close wins. Getting blown out 20-2 is a bad sign. The Cubs have never even lose by double-digits, and are 14-4 in games decided by more than four runs.

    I don't get why people keep saying this, unless you're assuming Soto would have gone to third. That's the assumption. I didn't see the play, but on turf some believe that ball goes to the wall.
