I felt that way when Lee got the hit, oh well, this is our final stand instead of the 9th I guess Because Geo Soto and Mark DeRosa have both shown to be easy outs this year. there is also this guy seperating those two, you may have heard of him I didn't know Edmonds had the ability to record three outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. It's still possible. But we'd have to have one hell of an inning (both top and bottom halves).

because no one cares about stats like that This. You win games by getting runners into scoring position with no outs, not by getting them home with two at an average rate.

Not that I blame him for taking it, but the best pitch to hit was the first one. I hate we're blowing through our best part of the lineup with two outs.

Is it really fair that MLB lets Marmol throw a wiffle ball?

He's on pace for over 100 innings. It's going to take more than 8 days of slightly less than average use to pull him back from the shredded arm ledge.

For example, even if we get out of this unscathed, we're likely to be facing a well-above-average pitcher in the 9th. What about the 8th inning? Dunno. There are going to be at *least* 100 games, probably more, where our relief staff faces a high-leverage situation. You just plain can't use Marmol every single time.

We're not winning, so Lou refuses to do that. Once it goes to bases loaded, no outs, your odds of winning are 11%. Marmol would be a waste. He can't pitch in every single game that is close between now and the end of the season. Sometimes, you just have to suck it up and go with someone else. I would wager that Marmol is much more likely to get out of a No out/bases loaded situation unscathed than about any pitcher in the league. "Much more" is a relative term. The average pitcher gets out of it 12% of the time. Marmol, 18%? 25%? And even if he gets out of you are are a heavy favorite to lose.

I don't know if that is necessarily the best way to gauge using Marmol, the leverage in this situation is enormous, even if our actually chances seem low It's 2.38 now, it was lower with no outs I believe. Big, but not enormous.
