  1. It came from the DeRosa savings, and they think he can contribute positively.
  2. And it makes Miles' money even more inexcusable. Very good point. He's making in two years what DeRosa would make in one. I just realized that. :banghead: Yeah. I don't hate having Miles on the roster, but I hate paying him that much.
  3. There seem to be several posters beginning to suspect the Cubs are maxed out on payroll, and I think I'm going to have to join them. We heard reports of it earlier, but as usual, reports that no one wants to hear around here were roundly dismissed.
  4. We can't really beat the Sharks either.
  5. Well I call him a 4-5 starter for us, but he could have been a number 3 on some teams. Sure, on really bad teams that can't afford to waste that kind of money on mediocrity. Are we talking about Marquis? The guy is about as league-average as it gets. I really doubt only really bad teams have fewer than three starters better.
  6. Two of the players you mentioned play a premium defensive position, and the third is making significantly less than Soriano.
  7. Right, and typically you can find or track reasons for the player's downall./quote] Honestly, no you can't. It's just people's tendency to rationalize after the fact.
  8. Last year he had alot to prove. His 2006 and 2007 seasons weren't that impressive. He was being given the chance to go back to starting in 2008,which has been his preference. It was the last year of his contract and he has a career year. I hope i'm wrong but.... You're still making a huge leap without explaining why. You keep saying "career year" like it's some magic cure-all that allows a pitcher to have an Cy Young-sniffing year. I understand why the perception of the "career year" exists, but how would he have just turned it on like he did and then either totally forget all of his changes or, what? Choose to suck or be mediocre because he got paid? What is the thinking here? The why matters a lot less than whether or not the phenomenon has been observed.
  9. Okay, we can put away the fantasies of hanging with Detroit this season.
  10. Classic Huet. Big, fat rebounds. He cannot be our playoff goalie. He's only good for the regular season against teams whom we can keep the front of the net clear against.
  11. Huet's going to need to be awesome or the Blackhawks are going to need a few more PPs to win this game. Detroit looks really good 5-on-5.
  12. Did you see the replay? If the stick touched his skate, it was a tap.
  13. Well, there's one. Firedrill defense on that one.
  14. no he didnt, lilja was more worried about hitting him instead of body position And on the replay, Conklin just plain lost the play and left the whole net wide open. Well, I still like Eager.
  15. That's the end of one. I'm glad I missed last night's game (Had to work), and get to see this one. Excellent so far. I honestly thought the Wings were a little better 5-on-5, more consistently threatening. The Blackhawks picked it up a little later in the period, and hopefully they look just a little better in the second. Huet did a good job, but he was also helped by a pair of posts.
  16. Eager continues to win me over. Work hard, but also put the puck in the net!
  17. I was thinking the opposite, maybe they are going for lots of power-plays to show off some skill. Though some of them haven't been discretionary.
  18. Very good SH counterattack really, really should have tied it. Wings guy hit the crossbar with a wide-open net.
  19. I love our third line. They really frustrate teams while being a threat to score as well.
  20. lol, unfair? In plain view and no traffic, the Hawks guy came in for a check and elbowed him in the face. It could have been... wait, they didn't call that? The puck went straight out? Weird...
  21. Idiots. Get control of yourselves, you cannot afford to give up power plays at this rate. That was a horribly stupid penalty. We need to petition the NHL to make the playoff games 8 minutes long, because that's how long we can hang with the Red Wings before we fall apart.
  22. There we go! That was the awesomest penalty ever, it deserved to be scored on.
