  1. None of the guys we've gotten really seem like the kind of guys Towers would want for Peavy. The only move that is even marginal on its own is DeRosa. The others make perfect sense on their own.
  2. N.D. 26, Death 20. Suck it, haters.
  3. why would we want to trade our best prospect for a sub .500 pitcher?
  4. The one on 4th-and-10 where even if they get the call, they still need half the field just to get the tying (not winning) score. They can shut up.
  5. If Arizona wins, the "Top 5 longest championship droughts in North American pro sports" list has lost three members in the last four years.
  6. Definitely. I wonder if they realize what that's going to do to their post-football years.
  7. Ballgame.
  8. I'm not quite up on NFL rules, how much of his big rookie contract would we be responsible for with Leinart? If that's not a problem, I'd take a flier on him
  9. If everything goes right for Cincinnati performance-wise, they could be an 81-win team, and then if they get really lucky on top of it that puts them in the mid-80s and a threat to win if the division is weak. That's about it. They really, really aren't that good. The Brewers (87 pyth wins last season) without 48 starts from Sheets and Sabathia are not a .500 team, let alone a threat to win the division. This is a worse Cubs team than last year, but the rest of the NL Central took a much bigger step back
  10. Because they never should have dumped Jason Marquis.
  11. so what should people assume then? that he's a gym rat or a guy who never works out? or because we don't know for a fact, should it not even be talked about in your opinion? He's a professional athlete who appears to be in excellent general health. Lacking evidence to the contrary, there's no reason to assume has suboptimal work habits. And arm injuries aren't evidence.
  12. Overall, (right now) Gathright is a better hitter and baserunner right now and it isn't worth finding out whether or not a below average player (Pie) can improve to become slightly better than another below avg. player (Gathright). I really question whether Gathright is a better hitter right now.
  13. That'd at least make sense. I'm trying to figure out how you figured out that he wasn't committed without monitoring his work effort. just strikes me as a lazy guy. laid back, california kid who got things handed to him from a teenager on (because of his bad-assery at pitching) and got too wrapped up in the "life is good" mentality. again, i don't doubt his DESIRE to pitch. i just don't think he's a "give it your all" type of guy. to everyone... disagree with me, fine. to suggest that my theory is 100% impossible is just, well, flat out stupid and insanely closed minded. And you think it's okay to make up a complete personality workup of the guy and accuse him of negative personality traits based on nothing but a one-sentence sketch of his background?

  16. Yeah, the logical reason was Dusty Baker freaking abused the crap out of him, the Cubs misdiagnosed him and let him pitch through injuries, make them worse, and creating new ones. agreed! what i'm saying is that his effort/workout regimen/whatever was a contributor to that as well. denying that just blows my mind. And your proof of this is? this isn't a court of law. i'm not out to prove anything. again, just having a discussion. clearly there is no proof. it's MY OPINION. So your opinion is that you have identified a personality flaw in a person you've never met, and that's supposed to be okay? It's my opinion that Mark Prior's arm was sabotaged by gremlins.

  18. That is a really stupid thing to say. I mean incredibly ignorant. Pitchers can't commit themselves to not get hurt, or get back from injuries. hahaha, no it's not. you're essentially saying that effort in recovering from an injury means nothing. THAT's the stupid thing to say. you don't really believe that, now do you? What you seem to be ignoring is that Mark Prior didn't have a single injury that has persisted for five years. not ignoring that at all. so why, then, does he have so many injuries? just because? or is there perhaps a more logical reason? what are your thoughts, i'm curious. Because he made to throw a baseball more often than anyone should at 21 years old when his muscle structure was still forming, and possibly because some people's muscle structures are simply not built to consistently throw baseballs at all.

  20. actually, it's been frequently suggested that determination and will to live (or whatever you want to refer to it as) are significant factors in fighting cancer. i'm not too fond of your comparison. They are significant factors in delaying death. They don't make the cancer disappear.
  21. In the case of pitching-related arm problems, never. You question his physical ability to get healthy, but there's no reason to question the commitment. really? no reason? why's that? What possible reason do you have to question it, other than the delusion that you are personally acquainted with the personality of someone you've likely never closely met, and the belief that deficiencies in someone's muscular structure can be fixed by pure willpower?
  22. In the case of pitching-related arm problems, never. You question his physical ability to get healthy, but there's no reason to question the commitment.
  23. If you are mentally strong enough, your elbow muscles won't tear?
  24. it's not that simple though. it's pie or gathright and whoever pie nets in return. pretty stupid to get upset at the signing of gathright when it remains to be seen what pie will net (not saying you're stupid, just speaking in general) What could Pie possibly net at this point? He's out of options, so the Cubs lose a lot of their leverage in dealing him. He can *only* be dealt to a team that has a spot for him this year, which significantly narrows the field and lowers the return.
