  1. whoever said bartman should throw out the first pitch in a WS-thats a horrible idea. we dont need to bring up more curse talk at that point. maybe we let him do that at the opener for the next season after we win a WS, but that will never happen. the main problem for me in blaming bartman is that the ball seemed to be coming back towards the field of play from the stands. everyone was turning backwards looking for the ball before it ended up in front of them. for that reason they probably coludnt realize that it could get back close to the field and be potentially caught in an instant like that. its not like they were leaning forward onto the field and just praying the ball made it to them. that and everyone else there was reaching for it too. just my 2 cents.
  2. just for fun i went to retrosheet to look at game 2 of the NLCS 2003. prior threw into the eighth inning after the cubs were up 11-0! You wonder if that could effect his stamina for his next start. maybe it did, i dont remember that game. thanks dusty btw: it should be no surprise that pierre went 4-3 four times on his way to an 0-5 that game. i bet he hustled though.
  3. i see us eventually trading whatever 2nd tier SP we pick up, with hopefully some of our young arms being in the bigs in 2008 or 2009. so i hope the contract isnt too backloaded to make it easily moved then.
  4. does anybody know when randle is coming back? i have only seen UI once vs. maryland. but i see a big team that will hit open threes really well, but very low on overall athleticism. this team really needs randle, and may not win many games without him.
  5. i was a little impressed with the play of the post players for UI tonight. totally different team if randle is out there.
  6. i'm guessing there hasnt been much ref love on here? holy crap, they're tying to give the game to the pats, and the pats are giving it right back. the no-calls on the pass interferences were questionable, but that last late hit was awful. i'm sure this is overturned
  7. i dont see him doing well on the Red sox with all the media scrutiny and everything. i guess for 56 or 75 he'll find a way to tough it out.
  8. I thought that Pie hit lefty too? That could be kind of messy. yeah they both are lefties. i wasnt talking about a platoon, more like seeing how big a disaster JJ is in CF and giving pie a precious month or two in AAA. then trade JJ for some value.
  9. i think it makes the most sense to get a better offensive SS like lugo, and let a JJ/pie CF develop thi yr. with pie waiting i see no reason to spend prospects to get an expensive vet in CF
  10. in 2009, pierre's deal will look the worst. 2007-probably GMJ or any of the card FA pitchers.
  11. 150 pages? thats almost 1 per mill.
  12. maybe we can help LA unload that furcal contract? that would allow derosa to go where he belongs at #8.
  13. no games vs. the royals, thats all i know. cards have 6 at least.
  14. i know nothing about projections like this, but is .240 and 30 HRs from the bench/pitchers accurate? seems high, since pitchers and utility IFers are going to be taking most of the extra ABs. you have to figure 2-3 PA's/game from the pitching spot right?
  15. not much could keep me from watching baseball next season, but that line-up could very possibly do the trick wait, so you wouldnt watch this lineup? the D would be horrific, though. no thanks to Bonds.
  16. how many more (non-C) FA's can we sign? 1 or 2, i believe. if this is the case, then they better count. yes to schmidt, no to Padilla, Meche, Wolf, etc.
  17. i imagine the cubs would have been much better off if he would've signed that deal, too. Why? I don't think we would have Murton  oh, forgot about that! its just that with all the hype of getting nomar then the crushing injury, the appearance of Rey-O and all the other stuff i'm trying to forget.
  18. i imagine the cubs would have been much better off if he would've signed that deal, too.
  19. does anybody really think we are going to get 2 of manny, drew, soriano? for one, if we land drew, the red sox will be real reluctant to give up a big OF bat like manny. and, this is the cubs we're talking about. we'll be lucky to get one. and manny doesnt fill our hole in CF.
  20. thats what i've been wondering. this could get real interesting. there's no way they offer a contract less than 5 yrs.
  21. people go different ways with this. I agree with the decision. you can't assume your defense is going to throw a shutout the rest of the game. that automatic one can be very valuable down the road. And yet, if a FG is all they get the rest of the game, that can be the difference. I can see both sides. Probably depends on your confidence in the RZ. With Jacobs, I'd have probably gone for 2. yeah i guess it is still early. its just that now they have to get a TD or 2 scores.
  22. WTH did the giants not go for 2?
