  1. someone pointed out that its a forearm that was injured, above the wrist. long bones should heal differently, maybe less complicated than the wrist fractures mentioned here.
  2. that was a pretty play. good luck getting 15 pts on this D rams
  3. i wonder what steinbrenner would do if he caught wind of such a kickback. probably go ape. i really want this stupid posting system to blow up in seligs face. its just asinine. another thing to consider: boston made that bid a few weeks before average pitchers were getting 4/40. before this offseason's lunacy 4/28 for a guy who hadnt pitched an MLB inning would've seemed pretty generous.
  4. is it accepted that derosa will be satisfactory at SS?
  5. 3B back-up is one of the few things i feel good about with this current roster. i cant believe this thread is this long. there's plenty more to worry about at SS and the whole OF.
  6. Then according to Chris Carpenter's "past performances", http://www.baseball-reference.com/c/carpech01.shtml he would had continue to be a talented, but crappy pitchers. "Past performances" is not the best predictor, because doesn't take into account different variables. i dont understand what you're trying to say here. one could say this is another thrown away pitcher that duncan turned around. he shaved 0.4-0.5 off his whip from toronto. also carp got a rehab Miller/Dempster type contract not 3/28.
  7. And what makies Duncan and Mazzone so special as PC? Mazzone lived off of Smoltz, Maddux, and Glavine for atleast 14 yrs. Outside of those three HOFers, Mazzone was pretty much an average pitching coach. And outside of Carpenter, Duncan hasn't done much in St. Lou. He has had more talented pitchers lost then pitchers he help. I mean Smith, Ankiel, Al. Benes, etc, etc. So again...why are Mazzone and Duncan the end all to all pitching coaches? Duncan repeatedly has turned mediocre journeymen into solid pitchers. And Mazzone has been the PC for an enormous number of pitchers' best seasons, including Kevin Millwood, Steve Avery, Kyle Farnsworth, Mark Wohlers, Ligtenberg and a host of other more or less mediocre middle relievers that he got the most out of. Both of their staffs have routinely been better than those of Larry Rothschild. I assume you are aware that the Braves didn't dump him, they traded him for JD Drew. him and a bunch of crap scrubs that certainly weren;t the really interesting part of the deal.i think wainright was a big part of that deal, too.
  8. when is the deadline? i imagine if a deal isnt reached, the whole posting process will be reevaluated.
  9. We can't just send them down, IIRC. We could, however, cut them. At that point, any team who wanted them could pick them up and only be on the hook for a prorated portion of a league minimum salary. so no matter how well (2?) of prior, miller, guzman, marshall, mateo, marmol do, theres pretty much no way marquis gets knocked off the 25 man roster. great. for 3 years.
  10. what happens if we send guys like marquis and miller down? are we left paying for the whole contract, or can their contracts be picked up by some willing team?
  11. I can't stand Duke as well, but that's not quite true. They played Air Force and Marquette at a neutral site, and the go to Gonzaga. And even though they play a ton of home games, they play Air Force, Marquette, Indiana, Gonzaga, Georgetown, George Mason, Holy Cross, and Davidson all before the ACC season. They aren't playing the Sisters of the Poor. we should all know this, as all these games (and probably some practices) have been on ESPN.
  12. 5 mill raise after what he did last season? ugh
  13. well then ESPN 1000 must be like 100 times more reliable, right? *dusts off abacus 10 The dude that broke it on that board says ESPN 100. Sounds bogus. yeah sorry just an attempt at humor. if we sign marquis to $10 million/yr, then alcohol and a sense of humor will be our only hope next summer.
  14. well then ESPN 1000 must be like 100 times more reliable, right? *dusts off abacus
  15. That's waht gets me....if you weren't "shopping Hawpe", then why are you fielding calls about him? O'Dowd may have no intentions of trading Hawpe, but the facts are he is at least fielding those calls, and if I was Hawpe, I would tell my agent, I don't want to play for an organization that lies to me, but that is just me. i think any GM would be wise to at least listen to offers.
  16. i couldnt read the whole article, but i think it makes more sense to see SBs as a way to complement SG% not OBP. obviously scoring runs is the goal, but SBs are sort of a way to add a base/PA, but not decreasing the percentage at which you make an out like OBP.
  17. What the hell is a Mizzou Valley? yeah i've never heard it called that before either.
  18. i've never heard of this one.
  19. They did play well without Randle and Smith. The team will improve throughout the season. I just thought it was very pathetic at how quick they blew their big lead. And yeah, McBride is awful. Well there were some horrible momentum crushing calls. The "charge" on Pruitt cost us 5 points, as Arizona answered with a two. Also the foul where McClellum jumped into our guy on his three point play, we will get better as the year goes on. this is all true. at least all the "rookie" mistakes (the worst by Sr. Mcbride) kept this from being a loss totally from one-sided officiating. this team may make noise after-all. question: will that be counted as a neutral court in the RPI?
  20. Arizona has mastered the flop. I've never seen so many questionable offensive fouls.
  21. they just showed a graphic during the UI game- the next 6 Duke games are on ESPN 1 or 2. nothing like a little help recruiting. zona is getting quite a few questionable calls in the paint.
  22. Oden is supposed to play today vs. Valpo, several weeks earlier than expected. after watching them play UNC, i'm wondering if they could run the table in a down B10. edit: they play back to back at Wisky then at UI Jan 6 and 9th, so that could be their biggest test.
