  1. all of a sudden i'm real irritated with all the casual fans that will be watching the superbowl. i've heard these lately "the commercials are usually better than the game" "peyton seems like such a nice guy, he deserves to win" all the talk of the snacks and the parties and the high def TVs. everybody gets to see a great bears team in the biggest game in the world and they dont even realize it. they dont deserve to watch this game. /end rant take it easy on the booze, you dont want to cloud your memory of this game. go bears!
  2. Yep, I have no problem with that starting rotation. Hope it works out and everyong gets/stays healthy. a bit off-topic: where you at in Nebraska, twiggy? don't see many other nebraskans around the board. Western Nebraska, (Chadron) about 20 miles from South Dakota border. Middle of no where. 4.5 hours to Denver, which is the closest city to watch the Cubs. yes but january and february are beautiful there!
  3. the aramis trade was mid season, iirc, so i dont know if that matters in regards to the 40 man. i guess i'm just hoping its a lesser prospect. the mariners would get 2 yrs of jacque at below market value. i would really like to see a lesser prospect than gallagher as the top minorleaguer in the deal, but ichiro would look nice in CF. there's no way hendry could want ichiro longterm, so i hope they dont pull a nolasco on this one.
  4. arent PTBNL's almost always not on the 40 man roster? i thought not naming/deciding on the player was a tool avoid a 40 man crunch but i'm not sure how.
  5. That reminds me of what they say about Indiana football every year. We have 10 defensive starters returning. Yeah, but we have 10 defensive starters returning. so, the defense wasnt any better the next year? UI is not going to be contending for a title anytime soon, thats not what i'm saying. experience only does so much. but if this team has enough talent to be .500 in the B10, then next year's fares to be at least better. i believe we have at least 1 impact freshman next year, which should be helpful.
  6. carter has been completely worthless until this season. i'd hate to see our record if last years carter was playing this year. the thing about losing only 2 medicore players is all that experience returning- next year has to be better.
  7. i think arnold, mcbride, and carter are the only seniors. it seems like carter has only played for a season or two- a redshirt might have helped earlier in his career.
  8. Wainright isn't really a converted reliever. He's a lifelong starter who pitched in relief last year. thats true, but stamina may be an issue, maybe not.
  9. if looper to the rotation is true they are counting on 2 converted relievers, wells, reyes. does ERA+ include an adjustment for relievers? if not, the 2006 numbers looks even worse.
  10. looper in the rotation? i thought larussa mentioned it in passing but nobody took it seriously, like saying all the starting jobs are up for grabs.
  11. yeah, me too. we've got lots of starters (potentially) w/o wood. we could go 6 man rotation, or have one start/week of a 3headed PriorWoodMiller monster throwing 3 innings each.
  12. so do you just get the PECOTA or ZIPS (?)projections and put them in there? it would be cool if you just put the players name and they filled in the rest.
  13. Agreed, although i think the decrease in WGN Games has a lot more to do with WGN going to a "network" affiliation and choosing not to broadcast all the Cubs games...someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that's a MLB call. The days of kids across the country becoming Cubs fans because it was the only thing on in the afternoons are long gone. The only way this would bite them is if they lost current fans (doubtful), or lost enough potential fans to offset the financial gain. I don't think that will happen. Unless their father's are already Cubs fans, kids in other states aren't hanging out watching the Cubs on summer afternoons and falling in love. i wonder if the braves have a big nationwide following given their superstation and recent success? they didnt have a harry caray to listen too, though.
  14. Agreed, although i think the decrease in WGN Games has a lot more to do with WGN going to a "network" affiliation and choosing not to broadcast all the Cubs games...someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that's a MLB call. the decrease in WGN games is also all about $$. Lots of games were on CSTV or whatever while WGN played some crap movie from the 80's, not series from a new network.
  15. a very unathletic illinois team. we have some size for the first time in a while. i fail to see how the IU team is any better. hopefully if they heal up UI can make a run and get into the tourney.
  16. who was the catcher we got for neifi? supposed to be pretty decent, considering the price. edit, its chris robinson, according to neifi thread in baseball discussion thread.
  17. I remember seeing it for 79.95 each of the past two seasons. I have already began my search for the best way to bring MLB.tv into my house. I would switch to DirecTV, but it is not an option and that sucks! MLB is the one that made the agreement to go exclusive with DirecTV. I absolutely will not support them through MLB.tv. It defeats the purpose of being upset about MLB EI. exactly, i could see them sending back a canned response quoting MLB.tv's rates-what a savings over EI! Its a win-win for MLB, unless there is some more backlash. and as a healthcare worker, i think a near banishment of all smokers is not inappropriate. a large stadium should have a smoking section the size of a phone booth, with no circulation. maybe bring back scarlet letters. /end rant
  18. heckuva game by TJones. it seems the better benson plays, the better TJones plays. maybe its got more to do witth the O-line. go bears
  19. Bears 27 Saints 13 Daaaa Bears Da Bears Da bears da bears
  20. That's the first I've heard of that. Is that really true? going by frost's chart on page 1
  21. yikes, 10 Mil for marquis in 2009. that hurts. is that NSBB's first Mr. skin reference? $30/month is pretty steep.
  22. Maybe it's not best for Soriano or the team's defense, but it would almost certainly be best for the team. Even if Soriano is a subpar defensive CF, his value is maximized with his offense coming from that position. He's hardly guaranteed to be an above-average right fielder... offensively or defensively. At least this way we'd be sure to be getting at least one positive from him. Then maybe we can find a platoon partner for Jones in right and be set. Ward? Might make for a brutal defensive OF though. The only one who shouldnt want Soriano in CF is Pie.
  23. i thought soriano played CF for the yankees not too long ago? jones hasnt played much CF at all. who would be better defensively is not obvious at this point.
  24. dont know if this has been posted, but check out the espn expert's poll. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/features/talent 100% saints. this surprised me, but i havent watched much espn this year.
  25. man, i'm going to hate being in st. louis for the 100 yr. mark. its bad enough now.
