    Certainly if Pie is playing CF and maintaining an 850 OPS consistently, then yes, I'll acknowledge that he could be just as valuable if not more so than Dunn. As to whether or not he can maintain such an OPS, I'd put the chances around 30%. His plate discipline leaves a lot to be desired. Can players improve on this? Yes, but it is a rare thing. He is such an athlete, that I wouldn't put it out of the realm of possibility, but he has a hard row ahead of him in doing so.

    I know some of you purchase some prospect handbooks. I purchase Sickels book and usually will pick up BA's handbook. This link has a review of three prospect handbooks, John Sickels' the Baseball Prospect Book, BA's Prospect Handbook, and Minor League Baseball Analyst by Deric McKamey. I thought some of you who are considering buying one or more of the books might appreciate reading the review.

    According to Newsday, the Reds, Orioles, and Red Sox have shown some interest in Hidalgo. Link. I still wish the Cubs were mentioned among those teams.

    My guess is that the Reds would want to deal Dunn and Freel in different deals to maximize the return. Trading Freel makes little sense unless it brings back players they couldn't get through trading Dunn alone. My guess is that they could expect Pie, Williams, Hill for Dunn alone. Whether or not they believe Freel is worth Dopirak or not, I don't know, but I'd suspect that they could trade him somewhere else for a high prospect pitcher. I'd do Williams, Pie and Hill for Dunn. Freel is like a luxury-we don't really need him, seeing as we have enough middle IF as it is. I wonder if Cinci would want a Marshall or Gallagher instead of Hill, though. I don't know. My guess is that they would rather replace Williams with Marmol, Marshall, or Gallagher. I could see them asking for two of our top minor league pitchers along with Pie and then wanting either Novoa, Wuertz, or Wellemeyer just for Dunn.

    That package sounds ok for Dunn, but I doubt Freel is thrown in as well.

    One question that has often been asked is "if the Reds trade Dunn, who will play firstbase?" That question may have been answered today. Link, Maybe Dunn is next...?

    I don't think Ponson will be effective for long. First, it will be tough for him to stay off the sauce. Secondly, he's still going to have weight problems. Third, he's lazy and has a horrible work ethic. Fourth, he's not that good without those issues. My hope, however, is that he performs well enough in the spring to earn a job and force Reyes out of the rotation then implodes in his first few starts before TLR wises up and bumps him from the rotation.

    I'm guessing Sosa sits this season out and then if no one comes begging during the season ends up retiring before next spring.

    Thanks for taking out questions. I made my first trip to Cooperstown last summer during Ryno's induction and it was marvelous! First, with all the memorabilia the HOF has accumulated, how do you decide what will be displayed and what will not be displayed? How often are the exhibits changed? Secondly, who makes the decision as to what will appear on a player's plaque? Third, if someone wanted to research through the HOF archives, what are the steps to obtaining permission to do so?

    Man...Vance defending Wade Miller? That's news! :P I can't see Ponson being better unless Miller is hurt. Even Miller not playing could be better than what Ponson is going to contribute.

    For those who don't have it, I highly reccomend Sickels prospect book. It will give more detailed explanations for his grades on each player.

    This is what would make the draft or lottery interesting. If a lower placed team doesn't have the money, they might pick a top prospect rather than one of the stars. This would mean that some of the stars could get through quite a bit of the draft until a team could afford their contract. Also, think of the possibility of trades happening after the draft. This would really be exciting. Or what is more likely is that the lower team drafts the star and then trades the star for a player another team chooses along with some prospects from their own system.

    The Twins are a candidate because their owner wouldn't oppose it. He's 90 years old and his family is growing tired of dealing with the Minnesota legislature.

    I'd take Carlos Quentin, Alex Gordon, Chad Billingsly, or Jason Hirsch.

    These would be the players teams would clamor for: 1. Cabrera 2. Santana 3. Dontrelle 4. Mauer Both teams have deep farm systems as well. It would definitely be interesting.

    My guess is that there would be a draft for the players rather than a lottery. I would think that any team drafting a player from a contracted team would have to take on the terms of the contract. My guess is that any player contract, whether picked up by another team or not, would have to be paid somehow in the terms of contraction.

    In an article from the Minneapolis Star Tribune discussing the stadium situation with the Twins, contraction has once again been brought up. Link. The article later explains why this could make sense for baseball and what some of the terms might be. Would contraction be a better option to relocating, or could cities like Portland, San Antonio, Charlotte, Norfolk, or Las Vegas adequately support baseball?
