  1. Hitters: 1. Ruth 2. Bonds 3. Williams 4. Aaron 5. Henderson Pitchers: 1. Clemens 2. Pedro 3. Walter Johnson 4. Unit 5. Maddux
  2. Alright here's mine. And I'm cheating by adding a DH. C Barrett 1b Lee 2b Weeks SS Lopez 3b Ramirez OF Berkman OF Bay OF Dunn DH Pujols SP Zambrano SP Carpenter SP Oswalt SP Prior SP Sheets CL Lidge
  3. As I've said before, getting Soriano isn't a horrible idea. However, trading Murton to get him is. If we trade Murton for Soriano, we create an even greater log jam at secondbase and then have a gaping hole in left field. Regardless of what power Murton will or will not produce, he's a good player who will be under the Cubs control for the next six years. Soriano is a 10 million dollar player who would be a one year rental. Trading Murton for him without a significant plan to plug the hole in left is a shortsighted and assinine move.
  4. Even if you have the Fox regional package, out of market games are blacked out unless you purchase extra innings.
  5. Lots of laughs here. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v257/vance_the_cubs_fan/sidneyfatson3es.jpg
  6. In Louisiana, I have both the Rangers (5 hour drive) and Houston (5 1/2 hour drive) blacked out. I'm thankful that they don't block out Braves games here as well.
  7. Link This is an interesting development. In addition to the stadium lease problems, the team also has a copyright issue with the name.
  8. Bruce also has an article about Walker. Link. Some of the same quotes, but I found this one great.
  9. Link In an article on Cubs.com, Walker discusses his feelings about competing for the secondbase job and things in general. Baker says Walker is the frontrunner for the job. That is good news, in my opinion. Walker discusses how he puts it all in perspective. Walker also says he wasn't invited to the Cubs convention until the day before the event. That seems strange to me. Walker later in the article defends his defense some. Finally, he says he doesn't mind the competition. We were waiting on Walker to speak. It didn't take long.
  10. If your in your team's local market, it may not be worth it. If you like watching lots of baseball it is, but that is up to you. My wife laments that I'll watch a Cubs afternoon game, then at 6 PM start watching a game on the east coast. I may switch to a central time zone game or stay with the east coast game at 7...often flipping between innings to catch another game and see which are most exciting. At 9, I'll add a west coast game to the rotation. A day full of watching baseball...nothing beats it.
  11. Until Boston makes a trade, Paplebon likely doesn't have a spot. The Red Sox rotation already has Beckett, Schilling, Wakefield, Wells, Clement, and Arroyo. Even with a trade, Papelbon likely needs an injury to crack that rotation. Heilman is also likely a bullpen arm. He'll be in the majors all year, but I don't see him in the rotation. I could be wrong there, though. Liriano will crack the Twins rotation some time this year; I'm not certain if he breaks camp with the club though.
  12. I'm really not sure when it becomes available. DirectTV has usually had an early bird price which saves about $15. They just add it to my bill as soon as it becomes available and I have a chance to pay it or decline. I've never declined.
  13. I get most of the games not on WGN. If they play the Astros, I'm blacked out since MLB considers me a part of their market. However if the Astros are on my FOX sports station, I can watch there. I'd say I get 80% or higher.
  14. If I'm not mistaken the package costs around $150. DirectTV will let you pay it in three monthly installments. I've had it for three years and love it. Not only does it let me watch the Cubs, but I've enjoyed watching the other games as well. It's probably the best money I spend all year.
  15. According to ESPN's rumor central, the Orioles have offered Hidalgo an incentive-laden minor league deal.
  16. I know...I was just doing it quickly. I'd probaly adjust that list by moving Buerle with Prior. Also, considering that Vasquez's number was bumped by a huge 154+ in 2003, I'd probably replace him with Contreras or Garcia.
  17. Averaging the last three years ERA+ for the rotations, this is the list I've come up with: 1. Zambrano 2. Prior 3. Buerhle 4. Wood 5. Vasquez
  18. Just after reading the title of the thread, let me add that I hope Jim Hendry isn't stupid enough to make this deal. I'm not opposed to getting Soriano, but not if the price is Murton. If Alphonso demands a trade, offer them Wellemeyer and Greenberg. If they don't like it tough. They won't get too many better offers. Soriano is due 10 million. There aren't many teams that can absorb that high of a salary this late in the game.
  19. Well, if you're going on wins and consistiency over a career, you might as well put Maddux on the top of the list. So, in this discussion are you saying who is likely to be better in 2006 or who has been better? If you mean 2006, then the fact Buerhle has done it longer matters little as does his win totals, his WS ring, none of that. Zambrano is likely to be the top if we go by 2006. If you're talking career and that stuff six years ago matters, move Maddux to the number one spot and then we can open up this debate again.
  20. The Cubs might get him to shave some money off the future years by upping this year's salary by a couple of million as well. Tear up his current deal and replace it with one that pays: 06: 11 million 07: 11.5 million 08: 12 million 09: 13 million 10: 15 million mutual option with a 2 million buyout. If he plays out the entire deal, he gets a 5/62.5 deal. If the option is declined by either party, he gets 4/49.5 deal. While that could be below what he would get on the open market, it nets him a raise of 2.5 million this year which he only gets if he signs the extension. Lee gets a little bump for a career year in exchange for signing the extension. I think the Cubs could get him to agree to such a deal.
  21. I like those shorts and tops. I would like a pair to work out in. I wonder if they're for sale anywhere.
  22. Uness he's willing to sign at a discout, there's no reason to negotiate now. Sure, inquire about what it will take. If it can be done reasonably, do it. If not, just be one of the bidders this offseason and offer arbitration as well.
  23. From what I've heard, the Giants expect to get 120 games out of Bonds. With only that many games, I don't see any way he approaches Aaron's record. On the other hand, I figure he'll pass Ruth fairly easily and retire as the #2 HR hitter of all-time. I've never been a big fan of Bonds, but he is the most amazing hitter I've ever seen.
  24. I like the fact that his physical condition limited him to 186 parties the last four seasons.
