  1. Doubtful. 156 OPS+ is damn good no matter how old you are. Coincidentally, Wells has never come close to that. Maybe he should ask Barry for some HGH. Molina's best OPS+ was 110. Barrett posted a 121 last season. Trading away Barrett for Wells and then spending on Molina doesn't improve the team. Adding Bonds and his 150 or better OPS+ does.
  2. The Ticket rumor seems to be all BS. I've checked the Newberg Report site and there's no mention of it. If the Ticket was reporting this, someone there would have heard it.
  3. The only thing accurate about that is that 1310 the Ticket is actually a sports radio station in Dallas.
  4. How about Murton in LF, Drew in RF, and Jones in CF. I just don't think Hendry will trade Jones unless he demands a trade or is wowed by an offer. I think Drew would be better in CF than Jones.
  5. A Dallas Morning News article raised the injury and pitching abuse issue. Link. And then this to sum it up.
  6. I've probably missed it somewhere vance... but I'm assuming in that lineup you have Soriano at 2B, and leading off? Thinking of a: Soriano - 2B Barrett - C Lee - 1B Bonds - LF Ramirez - 3B Jones - RF Pie - CF Izturis/Cedeno - SS Pitcher Then on the off days for Bonds: Soriano - 2B Murton - LF Lee - 1B Ramirez - 3B Barrett - C Jones - RF Pie - CF Izzy/Cedeno - SS I'm not assuming Soriano at all. I've advocated looking into him. I've also advocated signing Alou for a platoon with Jones. However, I'm not likely in favor of doing all of these moves. I just think it would be prudent to explore all options. There's not a lot of talent in the FA pool, so the Cubs will need to be creative. If I signed Bonds, I'd pass on Alou and Soriano. Try to spend on pitching and maybe look at Ray Durham at 2b or Lugo for SS or possible explore a trade for someone like Marcus Giles. If I pursued Soriano, my preference is to use him in CF and still look to upgrade on of the MIF spots. If I signed Alou for a RF platoon, I'd still explore Soriano or look at Durham as well. I'd probably still look to improve wherever possible. I wouldn't pursue both Alou and Bonds. That wouldn't justify the risk, though it would still probably be a safer move than signing Jeff Weaver to fill a spot in the rotation.
  7. Pie likely could handle CF if Bonds is signed. He definitely has the range as his defense has never been questioned.
  8. It looks like hiring Ron Washington could help the Rangers lure Zito to Arlington. Link.
  9. It started here and then was moved to transactions.
  10. Oh please let him opt out. Drew at 4/55 would look nice in CF.
  11. I have little faith in him staying healthy for 120-135 games. I also think his defense is a huge liability, but that said, the offensive production would be worth it if he could stay healthy. But considering no one knows how well Sheffield will rebound from his injuries at his age, given equal dollar amounts....who is the bigger risk production and health-wise, Bonds or Sheffield? I'd rather take my chances with Bonds.
  12. If Murton were kept around, Bonds' health liabilities would be minimized. If the Cubs could get 120-135 games of 950 or better OPS out of Bonds in left, it would be worth the price of 8-10 million.
  13. The article speculates they may trade for Marcus Giles.
  14. If you win tonight's powerball ... would you also open up a Buffalo Wild Wings here too? :D Now why would I open something that would compete with my friends at Hooters?
  15. I think the Yankees may focus efforts on Clemens and Pettitte if they lose out on Matsuzaka. I also wouldn't rule out the Yankees trying to get their pitching through a trade.
  16. I still salivate over a possible Lee-Bonds-Ramirez middle of the order.
  17. I think a lot depends on what teams think of him. I've heard everything from low-ball offers around 3 million to teams offering 14 million. Since teams cannot discuss salary figures yet, I think it is really hard to guage right now.
  18. If Sheff is going to replace Murton in left, I'd much rather Bonds replace Murton than Sheff. Bonds is a much better hitter. Last season he has a 999 OPS. He's probably still a lock for a better than 900 OPS. If the Cubs could get Bonds for under 10 million, it would be one hellova move and the Cubs wouldn't have to surrender any players like they would for Sheff. Like Sheff, it's only a one year move. If the choice is Sheffield or Bonds, I'd take Bonds each and every time.
  19. No way. Zito is 1-5 in the postseason. He was shelled vs the Tigers this season. Schmidt is 2-2 in the postseason. Schmidt is clearly better.
  20. I still think Hicks steps in and blows everyone away. I'd love for the Cubs to get him, but I'm not all that optimisitc.
