  1. Washington has added a relatively unheard of name into their managerial search by interviewing Trent Jewett, the Pirates' AAA manager. Link.
  2. Link I don't see Baker being a fit with San Diego considering Alderson is now in charge.
  3. Not if number one takes him! Who are you taking?
  4. It appears as if Bagwell's career with the Astros is now over. Is he a HOFer? He has a career line of 297/408/540 in 15 seasons. He has the ROY and MVP award to his credit. He had 449 HR and 1529 RBI. His career OPS+ is an amazing 150. I'd probably say he belongs.
  5. Second pick! Woo! I know who I am picking!!!!
  6. I guess the question would be what qualified for a genuine interest in signing him. Would offering Matsuzuka a 6/30 deal qualify as genuine? I don't know and I don't know if the commisioner would agree or not. Definitely, Daisuke has no room to complain about a 6/30 deal. That wouldn't be a bad deal for a team. Submit a 50 million posting fee and then offer Daisuke 6/30. At worst, you have him for a cost of 80 million which is like 13 million a season. That's cheaper than offering a 30 million posting fee and then paying him 10 million a season. He may turn it down, but then he's kept from signing elsewhere. The only damage may be that he won't negotiate with that team when he returns as a FA next season.
  7. I guess the question would be what qualified for a genuine interest in signing him. Would offering Matsuzuka a 6/30 deal qualify as genuine? I don't know and I don't know if the commisioner would agree or not.
  8. Glavine's agent is now denying the report that Glavine and the Mets are close to a deal. Link
  9. Elia, who resigned as bench coach for the Orioles, doesn't seem too interested in taking the Cubs job. Link.
  10. Buster Olney has an interesting take in his blog. Link
  11. The Mariners won't be competing for Matsuzuka. Link.
  12. Willis would attract a lot of interest. My guess is the Mets would give up Milledge and Heilman to get him...and maybe throw more into the deal. The Rangers would likely offer one of the DVD guys along with the pick of their farm system to get him. The Yankees could offer Tabata and Hughes. I just don't think the Cubs could outbid other teams if Willis became available. We'll just have to sign him as a FA in a few years.
  13. at this point, if bonds can take us to the playoffs, he can burn an american flag while doing it for all i care. No. I don't want to get off topic, but thats way wrong. It was just a bit of obvious hyperbole. Possibly, but I feel--and maybe I am sensitive--but if we can't swear on here, and have to delete other offensive things, then this also should go. Its more offensive to me than any "swear word." Again, I don't want to hijack, I just had to put in my two cents about that comment. And it may be offensive to some, but I think it's different than a swear word. Limiting swear words is in effect a way to keep this a "family friendly" environment. While most may be against "flag burning", I don't think we shouldn't be allowed to say it. It's not my site, but that's my two cents. But back to point, if Bonds comes cheaper than 10 million, I'd take him even if changed his name to Saddam!
  14. It would cost more than Pie, a lot more, to get Willis. Furthermore, if the Marlins truly shopped Willis, I don't think the Cubs have the talent to match some of the offers the Marlins would receive.
  15. Zito will get a 5/75 deal or better. Schmidt will get 4/55 or better. Mark it down.
  16. For 25 million, he can wait and go back in a couple of years.
  17. So, is this ever gonna happen?
  18. Link This is interesting. Of course, I'm not sure Arod gets as much money if he opts out...but there is the chance he could get more. I don't think that there's any conceivable chance for him to get more. His agent is Scott Boras.
  19. Ken Rosenthal writes in his article that Rodriguez will not be shopped unless he or his agent, Scott Boras, request that he is traded. Link This is interesting. Of course, I'm not sure Arod gets as much money if he opts out...but there is the chance he could get more.
  20. Dombrowski is staying in Detroit. Link.
  21. And not to be outdone by his former teammate in Atlanta, Maddux has asked for a 2-year deal in his negotiations with the Dodgers. Link.
  22. It looks like the Phillies are offering Gavin Floyd in an attempt to acquire Sheffield. Link. At one point, Floyd was considered untouchable, but he's been brutal in the time he's spent with the Phillies.
  23. According to the NY Daily News (Link), the Mets and Glavine are close to a two year deal that will pay the lefthander 25 million dollars! If Glavine can get a two year deal that pays him 12.5 million per season, imagine the price for the younger Zito. Furthermore, it reduces any chance that Schmidt signs for less than four years and less than 13 million over those four. The dearth of quality in the market is going to drive the prices way beyond what many of us expect.
  24. Rey Rnez Lenny Harris Tony Womack Antonio Alphonseca Mark Guthrie Dave Veres Juan Pierre
  25. I'm still laughing at the level of idiocy reached in that article.
