  1. Kinsler ends the shut-out with and RBI single.
  2. Blalock breaks up the no-no with a double
  3. Hughes leaves with a sore hammy and a no-hitter.
  4. The Cubs rally will stand. If they don't resume, they'll pick the game up from this point tomorrow.
  5. True. They can't take the Cubs runs off the board, but since those runs scored in an inning in which the Pirates haven't completed their at bats, it would be a suspended game.
  6. after this half inning I'd rather it happen now, but if you say so don't they have to play the bottom half to make it official? yes
  7. Can't. The Pirates would have to play their half of the seventh for this to hold up.
  8. We're losing because we suck. I thought it was that simple.
  9. Keyshawn would make a good pick-up for the Saints. They could use a veteran receiver.
  10. Murton needs to play regularly to get comfortable, rather than being jerked around with pinch hits and spot starts. and how long do you put a guy in and watch him flail away? How long did we let Izturis start?
  11. Personal disdain is one way to put it, although it's not because of his rehabs. He told a class of mine a couple of years ago that not only does he have a grudge against Prior, but he sees no reason as to why he should even try and be impartial when he writes. I believe it stems from being somewhat uncooperative with Sullivan early in Prior's career. I keep wondering how Sullivan keeps a job at a paper as large as the Tribune. He seems like he'd fit in better at the The News-Star.
  12. I know if I show up late, hungover, and unable to perform they will intrude in my personal life by removing me from their payroll. Even if it was for the first time? That seems a little extreme. In my job, if I show up under the influence of alcohol or drugs, I'm terminated. If I get a DWI, I'm terminated. I can drink all I want on my own time. I can go to all the gentleman's clubs or carouse about on my free time at will. But if I get a DWI or ever happen to be believed to be under the influence at work, they can order me to be tested. If I refuse, I'm terminated. If I consent and I test to be under the influence, i'm terminated. So, while I have a right to do what I want on my own time, there are strict parameters that surround that. Do you believe your employer is doing the right thing? Since it's a school, yeah, I'd think so. Same with a pilot or anyone involved with public transport. But under the influence and hungover are two different things, you wouldn't get terminated if you were talking with co-workers about being hungover, would you, Vance? It would be harder to have me terminated for that. But if they thought it might impact my ability to teach, they could hold a tenure hearing to revoke my tenure and then remove me by non-renewal of contract. My guess is that one time coming to work noticeably hung-over would not result in such a response. On the other hand, if I made a habit of it, and especially if I admitted such to a co-worker, my guess is that I would be out of a job.

  14. It's far too early to tell either way. The Cubs may not be as bad as they've looked and the Brewers may not be as good. Of course, the Brewers could be better than they've played, and the Cubs could play worse. We just don't know at this point.
  15. To honor this, I think I should post one of my favorites from FireJoeMorgan.
  16. I'm having to trust you all, because I think sportsline is making up their own game.
  17. I just lost my respect for DeRosa. No DH!
  18. My team isn't doing so well. Looper is giving me negative points and Figgins has been on the DL. With Figgins return, I expect my team to begin its ascent. Also, I need Looper to start sucking...immediatelty!
  19. At the risk of sounding like a dick to one of my favorite posters (Vance). How in the hell do you have that much time on your hands? I mean, 3,000 votes in a week? Also, am I the only one who is sick to death of All Star Balloting? I mean, seriously, is it really that cool to see a .197 batting Mike Piazza start or something like that. Give me a break. With the amount of idiot fans and ways to screw the system (like voting 3,000 times per week), does it even matter anymore? Also, voting starting in April. That's just stupid. If they keep the voting, limit it to a two week window before the selections are made, so that the ridiculous voting comes to an end. Keep the "vote in the 25th guy" thing, because either way a deserving player will make it. Maybe add a "vote for the starting pitcher" thing also, because then a guy who is already on the team will get the honor. But as far as all star starter voting. Keep it. It takes about 4-5 minutes to vote 25 times. Often as I'm voting, I'm doing something else like watching the NFL draft or watching a baseball game or shouting profanities at the Mavericks. I hardly have to look at my screen to vote. So, voting 200 times might take me 20 minutes tops and I was probably doing something else during that entire time.
  20. Wood's stay is a short one. He was optioned back to AAA to make room for Chone Figgins's return from the DL.
  21. Anderson has been sent back to AAA.
