  1. Furthermore, while it may seem that the Braves need to trade Salty, he's still young and they could keep him at AA all this year and AAA all next. They might eventually trade him, but they aren't at a point where they have to trade him, at least not right now. Jones + Veal might be enough to get it done.
  2. Here's something on Payne from BP.
  3. I highly doubt they trade Salty for the likes of the Jock. They could get someone of much higher value for him. Salty's value to the Braves is severely diminished if he has to change positions. It doesn't mean he'll cost less to acquire, but it does mean he'll be more likely to be dealt. The catchers in our org suck. Let's hope the Cubs are all over Salty. If the Braves deal Salty to the Cubs, they will want one of Veal, Gallagher, or Marmol.
  4. Cowboys sign Ola Dagunduro/DT/Nebraska, Mike Jefferson/WR/Montana, Steve Rissler/C/Florida, Robert Turner/OL/New Mexico, Jerard Rabb/WR/Boise State, Jackie Battle/RB/Houston, Matt Moore/QB/Oregon State. Does anyone know about any of these?
  5. Last week, the All-Star Game ballot was released. It's time to support our Cubs. Pledge your daily votes here. I think we should vote for Lee, Barrett, and Ramirez. Feel free to vote for others, but those three deserve our support. (I'm also marking Sosa on all my AL ballots.) I'll keep up with daily pledges. I'll vote at least 100 a day. As of right now, my count is 3025 votes cast. If you need email addys, just use those from your junk email folder. Vote or Die!
  6. Dodgers and Padres still going in the 14th inning.
  7. And a flair to SS ends the game. Dbacks 5, Giants 4.
  8. Trailing 5-4 in the top of the ninth, the Giants have bases loaded with 2 out.
  9. I think the Tanard Jackson pick is a good one. He should excel in the cover-2 scheme.
  10. Looks like he made a bad career move. That and he's not an NFL-caliber back. I guess not, though I really thought the first half of the Sugar Bowl would've changed some minds there. He's not big enough and doesn't have NFL caliber speed for a half-back. He blocks ok and can catch, but since most teams don't go with a 2-back set, those skils aren't utilized as much in the pro game anymore. To make it as a RB in the NFL, you either need the size to be a bruiser or the speed to be a change of pace back. Ideally, the great backs have both. Walker lacks the speed or the size, so his abilty to block or catch is greatly minimized. I'm sure he'll get signed, but then likely is cut in training camp and either chooses another career or plays in the CFL or AFL.
  11. I agree. The Sosa-haters were so sure he was done now they have to attack his character since he's found his power again. I'd love to see him end the year with 30+ homers. And what's funny, that is within the realm of possibilities.
  12. Looks like he made a bad career move. That and he's not an NFL-caliber back.
  13. Looking at the schedule, both the Cubs and Cards have an off day on July 23rd preceeding a three game series in St. Louis. While it would make for a brutal stretch of games for both teams, making it up then would keep from having to have a DH.
  14. He wasn't invited to the combine, but look at his pro-day results: Campus: 4.32 in the 40-yard dash:shock: … 2.48 20-yard dash … 1.46 10-yard dash … Bench pressed 225 pounds 15 times … 4.07 20-yard shuttle … 7.1 three-cone drill … 41½-inch vertical jump:shock: … 10-foot-11 broad jump … 32½-inch arm length … 9½-inch hands … Right-handed … 25/39 Wonderlic score. sounds like another workout warrior who can't play  I'd probably still take him over the QB the Eagles took in the second round.
  15. Anyone think Veal could be in line for demotion?
  16. Cubs.com is showing Lilly as the starter for this game.
  17. Kinsler homered again. So far, he's lived up to my pick of him as a fantasy sleeper.
  18. From NFLDraftCountdown.com: Strengths: Has very good size and terrific bulk...Excellent natural athlete who is more quick than fast...Does a very nice job versus the run...Good hands and ball skills...Still improving and has a lot of upside...Top intangibles...Has special teams potential. Weaknesses: Still very raw...Needs to work on his technique and the fundamentals...Is not a great tackler...Does not have elite speed and plays slow because he isn't very instinctive...Does not recover well from mistakes...Really struggles in coverage. Notes: Played running back for the first half of his career and he only made the move to defense in 2005...More of an in-the-box type...Might only project to be a backup and special teamer at the next level...A project and long-term developmental guy. Doesn't impress me at all. Thanks, will read more about him but that isn't bad for end of the 4th round. I'll make a few calls in the morning to a GA I know at ULM and see what other information about him I can get.
  19. Lead didn't last long. Reds now lead 9-4.
  20. Ok...I've officially lost interest.
  21. For the Bears fans, here's a pic of Payne. http://cmsimg.thenewsstar.com/apps/pbcsi.dll/bilde?Site=DI&Date=20070428&Category=SPORTS&ArtNo=70427053&Ref=AR&Profile=1006&MaxW=600&Q=80
  22. I wanted the Cowboys to get him. So far, I'm 0-2 on my second day prognostications.
  23. Mosley about the Cowboys picking Free...
