    On the pre-game for the Detroit-Miami game on TNT, the guys were discussing this. Apparently, Kobe is vetoing any deal that has Deng going to LA. The Lakers apparently won't do the deal without getting Deng, hence a stalemate. The guys on the set basically said, unless Kobe agrees to revoke his no-trade clause and relinquish control over the process, he likely isn't going to be moved. Barkley said it best when he said (paraphrased) he keeps saying he wants to be traded, but if you want to be traded then give up the no-trade clause. If you have a no-trade clause, you won't give up, you must not really want to be traded.

    Regardless of his weight issues, I doubt he'd be any worse in RF than Cliff Floyd was.

    I don't hold any hope that the Cubs could get Cabrera, but if Miggy is available, I'd hope the Cubs make every attempt to get him. Cabrera in the middle of the line-up surrounded by Lee, Ramirez, and Soriano would be phenomenal.

    Well, if Wood wants to start then some team, whether it's the Cubs or not, will give him that opportunity. You can be certain of that. The question becomes, do the Cubs let him leave to pursue that or do they give him the opportunity? I think we have enough depth to let him try. We may be limited in dollars we can offer him, but I think if the offer is fair Wood take it over going to another team as long as we promise him the opportunity to start.

    The opt out means watch the Rangers become major players in the free agent market. I can see them making a run at Andruw Jones.

    I'm told they "still have some work to do" on that. I don't know why. I don't understand how the team can pay Dempster and Wade Miller to rehab when they had about 1/200 of the upside that Prior has. My guess is the Cubs want to be certain that they don't rehab Prior, he returns in August, and then walks as a FA. My feeling is they don't want to pay him three million to rehab and then leave. The work could be convincing Prior to take a deal with a team option for 2009.

    I'd make it game 7 (if necessary) at a neutral site, instead of game 1. Then it will have the appeal of a winner-take-all one game championship event. Not sure if it will be logistically possible, however. The problem of game seven at the neutral site is that a game seven isn't guaranteed. I like the idea of game 1 at the neutral site though.
