  1. Now I really hope Cuban buys the team to weed out those who aren't true fans.
  2. Despite my night of drinking, I am now awake and since I have nothing else to do, I'll head to the park shortly. If any of you that are coming can get there before the gates open, we should be able to grab some on the front row.
  3. nilo (its odd talking in the third person with a messageboard handle) + buddy is in as well. Should we plant ourselves in far left field? Thats the easiest to save seats. That's usually where we end up.
  4. You going to be at the saturday and sunday games, vance? I'll be at Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. I'll be in the bleachers Saturday and Tuesday.
  5. Better suited to pitcher than catcher. I'm never going to look at a scout the same way ever again. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I wonder how those scouting reports would look for women's softball players? Speaking of that, a buddy of mine is meeting with Jennie Finch as we speak. Now what could "meeting" be a euphamism for?
  6. I wonder if Jake might want my Juan Mateo jersey now?
  7. I want to go motor boating with number 50.
  8. According to an email I received from Jamey Newberg, the Rangers traded Kevin Mench who had been playing for AAA Oklahoma to the Blue Jays for cash considerations.
  9. I wonder what the Padres will do with all the half-shirts he left around the locker room.
  10. I've arrived at the airport in Jackson, MS but I still have awhile before my flight leaves. And I talked to Fred and it looks like he is out for Saturday, but thankfully he will make it by Sunday.
  11. We have a lead-off hitter in Fukudome. We've just placed him in the wrong spot in the order. I'd rather focus on fixing the rotation now and look at adding another bat later.
  12. Yost may be fired this year, but I think it would be a June firing rather than happening this early.
  13. Fred, give me a call Friday evening with an update. And I hope you make it back by Sunday because we have some really sweet seats for that day! Well.... the shop we were towed into is open now. They're pulling my truck in now, and I really hope they'll be able to give me a diagnosis by noon. In that event, if it's really serious, we'll just take the rent-a-car option, and should be home for the game. (We're only 1100 miles away). If it's not all that serious, we'll just have to stick it out here, and then wait for dispatch to come up with a load for us. No telling when I'll get in with that scenario. Hopefully, I'll know fairly soon. Cool. Well, keep us all informed. I don't know if we can have an official NSBB game without Fred.
  14. If Fred doesn't make it back, I may have a ticket for you...but I'm still hoping Fred will be back to join me for Sunday's game. We'll discuss on Saturday.
  15. Not acceptable! LOL. Be safe, Yeti!
  16. I think that's why Zell has tried to sell Wrigley first, so he can have the team sign a lease with the owner of Wrigley that the new owner would be locked into. So, in theory a new owner of the team without Wrigley could build a new park, but if they are locked into a lease they would be tied to the park for at least as long as the lease is for. Thanks vance. I don't see how that would make the Cubs as attractive not having Wrigley as part of the deal. What if a buyer A will give 2X over buyer B if Wrigley is part of the deal? Is it possible Zell is trying to see if someone will swoop in and buy both now before he breaks them up? the only advantage an owner could have in owning the Cubs without Wrigley is that it would leave the cost of renovation and preservation of the park on the owner of the park and not the team. This could be an advantage of state ownership as the state might have a vested interest in keeping the park viable regardless of profitability. That being said, I don't think the advantage outweighs the headaches and disadvantages.

  18. By everyone do you mean hookers and by customers do you mean Johns? D'oh! Freudian slip...? Been thinking too much about the Vegas trip?

So, in theory a new owner of the team without Wrigley could build a new park, but if they are locked into a lease they would be tied to the park for at least as long as the lease is for. Here's a question - in this little scenario (where the Cubs and Wrigley are sold separately, and the new owner is locked into a lease), could the Cubs still build and move in to a new field, and just continue paying the old lease at Wrigley? I mean, would they have to actually PLAY at Wrigley, or just keep making lease payements?? They would have to continue playing there.
  20. Guess I'll wash the jeans before packing tonight. So, just to be clear, we're all wearing Fukudome headbands, right? :D
  21. and wears a feather boa too.

  23. I agree with this sentiment.
  24. That is very understandable.
