  1. I decided I'd like to throw 98 mph. I'm only 5'8", so the 40 speed would make me fast, but I'd be too small to parlay that into a athletic career by itself. I have small hands, so even with the speed I couldn't be a RB or WR. With the 98 mph, I'd have somewhat of a shot at making it.
  2. Only a nickel. That's being a little cheap isn't it?
  3. Is it possible to be worse than Braun at third? With Gamel, yes. He's making an error almost every fifth game.
  4. It is really tough to watch games that aren't on, yeah. Wrong thread. Of course, I do have this one on TiVo...haven't deleted it yet...so ya never know.
  5. I have a ball with both Marshall's and Murton's autograph on it. I'd like at least one of them to have success. i have a ball somewhere at my parents with shawn estes and joe borowski's autographs on it. ill sell it for $2000 OBO I can top that. I have one with Dave Veres and Antonio Alfonseca.
  6. It didn't happen at Wrigley, but Albert Belle once gave me the middle finger.
  7. This is frustrating...but so was last night until the seventh. So, there's still hope.
  8. It's not a bad start, but it still won't work. At least not for now. First, Blalock is out with carpal tunnel syndrome in his wrist. He's going to have to come back and show his power before any team gives something of value for him. I also think the Cubs would have to send significant money to the Rangers to get them to take Marquis or they would have to add another player.
  9. I keep a record of how many I make each day with a simple calendar using a hash mark every time I make 25 votes. So one mark=25 votes. Since May 1, I have voted 5,000 times. I forgot to vote any yesterday. If I need to, I'll pick up the pace. Let's keep this going.
  10. I'm going to repeat a post from another thread. If wrigley23 can make the same post 20 times, I will as well. I never liked Edmonds. I've openly admitted that many times, but if he came here and hit, I'd forget about all that and welcome him with open arms. However, he has nothing left. So, right now he gets the double whammy of being a player I've never liked (aka Todd Hundley) and playing at a level that is extremely low. For comparisons, the turd Todd Hundely at least had a 67 OPS+ in his worst season as a Cub. Is that bad? Yes, but it's still 92 points higher than what Edmonds is doing. Neifi Perez is his worst stint as a Cub had a 53 OPS+. Bad? Yes, but still 78 points higher than Edmonds. Jacque Jones at his worst produced an 87 OPS+ which is 112 points higher than Edmonds. Amazing isn't it? Need more? The worst Jose Macias could do was a 52 OPS+. That's 77 points higher than Edmonds. Paul Noce even put up a 58 OPS+, Jeff Blauser never fell below 69, Ced Landrum 66, Juan Pierre 82, Willie Wilson 75, Corey Patterson 54, and Ozzie Timmons 71. We've seen some suckage with this team, but Edmonds over the past two weeks has reached epic levels. He was hated when he got here and has done nothing to help this team win. I'm highly critical of the Cubs at times, but when the games begin, I root for anyone who wears the uniform...even those that are asses and those that suck. However, Edmonds was a player I never wanted. Had he been able to provide even a scintilla of offense, I would have learned to like him, albeit begrudgingly, but I hated him before he came and he's brought never before seen levels of suckage with him. He's done. Cut bait.

  12. Well, don't just "stumble" on to our new baseball blog. Make it a point to go to it! We have a new blog at the Daily Herald, covering both the Cubs and White Sox. I try to post almost every day. I'll throw out all kinds of topics, some and some not. Today, I did a mini book review. I talked hockey with Dempster last week. We'll get into some stats stuff, too. Check 'em out. Leave comments. Go back often. See you there and right here at NSBB. I'll bookmark it for now on. Looking forward to more good stuff. :good:
  13. This situation isn't going to end up like 2004 because Brenly isn't the arrogant prick that Stone was and Lou isn't the thin-skinned manager who fosters an us vs the world attitude like Dusty. While Brenly ins't going to back down from his style of broadcasting, he's not going to make this personal. Stone did. Right now, I'm not worried about this becoming 2004. I don't see Brenly trying to get his digs in every game like Stone did and I don't see Lou letting this become a distraction.
  14. It's possible to have a negative ops+? Huh Going into today's game it was -10. I expect it to be lower when things get updated. -25 now Yikes! It's time to cut bait.
  15. Gamel is at AA. He's killing the ball this year to a tune of a 384/443/649 line in the Southern League (He's out performing LaPorta right now). But the problem is that his defense at third is shaky. He already has 11 errors in 51 games. He would be Braun-like at third. Maybe worse defensively.

  17. Some comments from Lou. And apparently the team was wearing Gallagher Iowa Cubs t-shirts. Link.
  18. And once again this goes completely ignored.
  19. He'd be a good fit for the Rangers, but they may not be interested considering they aren't in contention. The Rangers are only 4 games behind the Angels. Then they may have more interest than I originally thought.
  20. Even with the wind blowing in, 1ER over 7IP is always a good start.
