  1. If we sign Sheets for 2/20 or 2/24 or somewhere in between, we'd lose a first round pick but hold onto Vitters. I think signing Sheets could be the way to go. Yes, he has injury issues, but Sheets at 10-12 million a year with only a 2 year commitment sounds like a no-brainer to me. Why not offer Sheets a contract structured this way--- 2 million signing bonus. 09- 10 million 10- 12 million 11- 15 million or 2 million buyout. (Have the 2011 year guaranteed if Sheets pitches 200 innings in 2010.) This would guarantee Sheets 26 million over 2 years or if the option is picked up or he reaches the innings pitched incentive, he would have a 3/ 39.
  2. The site is decent and a definite improvement from the early days when he would let people email him rumors. He had a lot of bad information in those days. I think he learned his lesson and improved it. Back to the original poster's question. If he has a lot of time to mine the internet, radio, message boards, newspapers, etc and compile all the relevant rumors, then go for it. But to have a good site for that, it would take some time.
  3. Sheets met with the Rangers on Thursday. Mets also reportedly have interest. Link. Why is Sheets a good bargain?
  4. A catcher that could be an interesting acquisition for someone would be Pudge. Right now he's looking for starter's money and a starting job. Neither of those appear to be on the horizon for him. How cheap will he eventually sign? Would he go somewhere a starter is entrenched? I don't know. But Pudge as a back-up for 1-1.5 million wouldn't be a bad option.
  5. That's a relief. Even if we do sign Mackey, which I place the odds at about 50/50 we will, we were going to be thin at receiver if LaFell left early.
  6. Bruce blogs about the convention here. Link
  7. Rumor has it that Garrett had the Rams job, but priced himself out of it during negotiations. He didn't want to take a pay cut from what Dallas is paying him as OC.
  8. Imagine what he would do if Pujols played for the Cubs at some point.
  9. Despite indications that Garrett was coming in to be named HC of the Rams, he's left without a contract, and it now is being reported that the Rams will hire Giants DC Steve Spagnuolo as their head coach.
  10. I thought he was already had the "head coach-in-waiting" label at Dallas? Isn't he getting paid more than some head coaches? I think some of the luster fell off his star this year. Also, there are lots of talk that Garrett has given Jerry an "Him or Me" Ultimatium regarding TO's placement on the team. With the firing of Brian Stewart as DC, who was a Phillips guy, it's possible that Jerry is shaking things up. We'll see. The guess is that Garrett isn't willing to wait any longer, and Jerry may not be ready to hand him the keys.
  11. Brian Stewart is out as the Cowboys' DC.
  12. Just my speculation, but watch Shannahan be announced as GM/HC of the Bucs.
  13. There's some reports going around that Jason Garrett is on a plane to St. Louis and will be named head coach of the Rams.
  14. In that sense, yes. But it's the closest team to his home. So, if he values being close to home, then it makes sense.
  15. There was an article in our paper today about the Rangers having interest in Sheets. Link
  16. What about Ivan Rodriguez? He's still looking for work.
  17. did you go to ULM Vance? Took some classes there. My ba degree is from Louisiana College. Ah, okay. I knew you rooted for the Warhawks too. I guess that's due to the fact that you live there, and I assume your wife went there since she is a pharmacist. My entire family with the exception of me attended ULM...or I should say NLU as that was what it was called then. My brother works there now. I've also taken close to 50 hours there, I just don't have a degree from the university. Most of what I've taken was for my teacher certification or post graduate hours.

  19. LSU has the number one class according to Rivals. It looks like we'll have a load of new talent with the Tigers next year.
  20. He's very well thought of around the state. I don't really know specifics, but I've also never heard much criticism of him either.
  21. Young has the same limits defensively as Theriot. He's already 31, and at this stage of his career, I'm not sure he's any better than Theriot. He probably has a little more power, but he makes 16 million a year until 2013. I don't think he's worth that. I'd have to pass.
  22. From what I've been hearing, LSU is supposed to have a very good recruiting class coming in.
  23. I agree. While we might get an impact player in the first, we're drafting low enough that we're not going to be getting the very best. If we're truly in a win-now mode, signing Sheets to a one-year deal is a very good decision. Now, if the Peavy trade happens, I'll be just as happy as I would be with getting Sheets. But Sheets really looks to be the bargain of the offseason at this point.
